More than 80 American academics, including Noam Chomsky and several California scholars, posted an open letter online Sunday to President Obama, urging him to heed the will of the Egyptian people, help remove President Hosni Mubarak and "move beyond rhetoric to support the democratic movement sweeping over Egypt."

I'm a little suprised by this
Chomsky, being as intelligent and knowledgeable as he is, should know that having Obama take out Egyptian leadership will only result in him getting rid of one and replacing it with another.
How is that going to solve anything?

The best approach would be to tell the U.S. to completely leave Egypt alone and stop having alliances with any govt. remotely similar to dictatorships.

Let Egypt be, leave them alone should be their request

This is only given more strength with Chomsky's below speech regarding the situation in Egypt and the "influence" of the U.S. in the middle east.

Oh .. no surprise here. The Muslim Brotherhood is moving into Egypt. They are a 'share the wealth' bunch. Chomsky is hard left 'share the wealth'. California scholars? Same. Academia leans left and would love a socialist type situation. They are ignoring the threat to stability with The Muslim Brotherhood in place. The Muslim Brotherhood said they want war with Israel and they want Sharia law. But it seems the 'share the wealth' issue is of more importance to Chomsky and the 'scholars'. :shk:

I don't bring Chomsky and throw him into the partisan arena
He's considered liberal but at the end of the day he's a vocal and knowledgeable anti-war commentator

He's not a Soros backing up liberal propoganda
He's just someone that speaks his mind and both liberals and conservatives like him

In my opinion partisanship and Chomsky is a non-topic

I just watched all those videos, PHEW! I almost fell asleep by listening to the voice of Noam Chomsky!

Well, what can I say - Mr Chomsky is telling the honest truth about the global reality we live in, and I agree with every word he said about the current situation in these videos from my European point of view of these events he's analysing!

I especially like how he explained the political situation and how all of this is intertwined with the agenda of big financial business and the large corporations of the elite at the expense of the ordinary workers and citizens - every god damn word of it is true!

privatise the profits and socialise the losses!

And the stupid voters buy it hook, lies and sinker everytime with the help of the corporate lobbyists, lying politicians, corporate PR firms and their brainwashing schemes!

Edward Bernays must be laughing his arse off down in hell!

Feudalism and fascism is definitely back for the ordinary citizens by courtesy of the super-rich and the elite!

I normally like Chomsky, but I can't believe how wrong he is here. The people of Egypt are tired of their dictator, who has been supported by the US for 30 years. Does Chomsky really think it would be a good idea to depose one dictator and install another (because inevitably, the new leader would declare himself leader for life, thinking that he is safe with America's backing)?
