In the last year of his life, Martin Luther King Jr. questioned U.S. military interventions against progressive movements in the Third World by invoking a JFK quote: "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

Were he alive to witness the last three decades of U.S. foreign policy, King might update that quote by noting: "Those who make secular revolution impossible will make extreme Islamist revolution inevitable."

For decades beginning during the Cold War, U.S. policy in the Islamic world has been aimed at suppressing secular reformist and leftist movements. Beginning with the CIA-engineered coup against a secular democratic reform government in Iran in 1953 (it was about oil), Washington has propped up dictators, coaching these regimes in the black arts of torture and mayhem against secular liberals and the left.

BLAME CANADA

Canada is the embodiment of evil among nations.

Yeah not many people know that MLK was becoming more radical, or that Malcolm X, after his epiphany at Mecca, was becoming more moderate like MLK.

supposedly MLK, MX, JFK, and RK were conspiring to have the Kennedy's as presidents for as long as possible, bring in MLK and X as Vice-presidents and then hand the presidencies to King and X, this is why they were all assasinated, the source is one of the leaders of the original Black Panthers can't remember the name which is why i cant provide a link. if anybody else remembers that interview and provide a link?

Naaaah .. I blame Muhammad for extreme islamists. Afterall .. he's the original extremist. He was a thief, a liar, and a mass murderer. (not to mention a misogynistic perv). He set the stage. He created the cult via false 'revelations'. Put the blame for Islam existing where it belongs .. with Muhammad.

After reading the op, it can be stated, that the entire piece is bias and failing to take into account about actual history as it was going on. The United States, did not fly an airplane or repeatedly try to bomb the twin towers in New York, the United States has not threatened a group or a person for speaking out against an idea, nor has the United States, or its people chosen to attack or wage war (Under the eyes of the law) against the Islamic world. The United States, has welcomed these people in, has defended and supported their right to follow their beliefs and religion, as they deem fit, within constrains of the laws of the land, letting them settle into the environment that they so choose to be. However, it was the Islamic extremists, that did launch an all out attack and actions what would have been considered an act of war against the United States of America. If the Islamic countries do not want assistance from the United States, then a note, a word, or even a public statement, refusing all aid and business from the United States would be the way to go. There are extremist on either side of any issues, however, if anything it was the policies of the United States that has gone awry, yet civility and decorum fails to come from the Islamic extremist. It seems that when ever someone in the United States or anywhere in the world, chooses to exercise their freedom of speech, be it by art form or action, and it offends, they are all up in arms, to include death threats. Understanding is a two way street, and perhaps if they back off, we will as well, and as long as they are no longer willing to take the money that the US government is willing to offer, then perhaps, the threat that they pose to the US and we to them will just fade away.

When it comes to the words of JFK, it was at the end of an era, and the beginning of a new one, there were colonies around the world, wanting to break away. The Soviet Union was constantly making overtures to its neighbors and around the world, and the US took it on itself to try to counter that threat around the world. If they had not, then those living in the southern part of the United States to the upper Midwest, would still be facing a threat of nuclear missile pointed at them.
