Expansion Explosion

Here is what has happened to America over the last 30+ years that I remember, one of the questions I asked myself many years ago was; What happens when all the Independent Companies “the ones smaller then Small Business” are completely wiped out of business? For years our governments has allowed independent business to slowly be bought out or overtaken by Small Business Owners. In turn the Big Business Company buyout or take over the Small Business, soon all that left is Huge Corporations…that are too big to fail. Ha-ha…it’s not funny anymore is it?

Here is how I viewed things growing up and getting older:

When I was younger and needed money, I would cut grass for my neighbors…today if you need your grass cut you call a lawn and garden company.

When I was younger and wanted to buy a soda, I went down to the end of the street where a neighbor had setup a small mini store on the side porch or basement to sell common everyday items…today you go to a franchised store chain, now some of these have turned into lager stores “I want name all the franchised places” and from there still larger retail corporations.

When I was old enough to go to start working in manufacturing there were several manufactures doing the same type of work, just making different products… today these small business have merged with larger corporations, which in turn caused jobs to be taken out of the community due to being transferred to larger corporate buildings near larger cities, with some being moved outside the country ~which is where my job went~ this does not account for all the job being lost due to robotics and other tech stuff either.

The same thing has happened with Banks, Mortgage Companies, Investment Savings and so on.

Now all we have in this country is Corporate America, we no longer live in a “free” united nation, it is gone. There are too many laws in place to protect the Corporate Powers. We need another American Revaluation; wither its political or otherwise, it’s the only conclusion I can come to.

Greed got us here, freedom and determination will get us out.

I’m ready to do what it takes; What are your thoughts on another American Revolution?

Stop shopping at friggin walmart, stop supporting the corporations that got us here.
Support farmer's markets, grow your own gardens, quit buying fast food and junk food...
This revolution will be led by the consumer - the ones who give these corporations power by buying their stuff - its all about the stuff---

Stop believing them when they tell you the latest cell phone will make you more hip.
My 6 mo. old cell phone is out of date, they tell me. Really?

Stop believing them when they tell you the larger the tv screen, the cooler you will be.

Preaching to the choir for the most part here, but word of mouth - or text (when did we start believing texting was the next greatest thing) can still work wonders.

Make the corps look like the fools for doing so to us.

Most people do not realize these problems unfortunately. In todays economy, everyday people are concerned about surviving the easiest way possible. It is easier to shop at a walmart than to grow your own food or go to a farmers market. It's much easier to go to a supermega store for something than to find a specialized store for a specific product. There are so many different distractions for people as well: ipods, video games, facebook, phones and whatever else. Most people I know live happily in ignorance of many issues like this. When the time for revolution does come I fear it will be to late for a change.

very true, the only way we really vote is with our money...for example, if everybody would simply just buy organic, we could vote Monsanto out of existence...unfortunately, big corporate equates with really cheap so the people whose backs have been broken cannot afford to live if they are not buying frankenfood at the local walmart...of course, if organic could become the norm then prices would equalize...but as for a revolution, the american people are too tranquilized by fluoride and propaganda to do anything, and if they tried, i believe the US gov would not hesitate to use lethal force on a massive scale...only a nonviolent movement of at least a hundred million people would work, and that could never happen without a free mainstream media...

It's called apathy, on some levels, as well as being a society that is now based on "instant gratification".

We also live in a disposable society. If it's broken, throw it away, instead of back in the dustbowl / depression era, where you would save everything, and fix things to re-use.

Products you buy are designed to break, rather then built to last. A product built to last does not make for a revolving purchase rate.

There are basics people need to get back to, but unfortunately, having to pay the bill and put food on the table and keep a roof over your head have become much harder now, so the easy solutions, like shopping at the super-mega-cheap stores have become the only real way to survive, and exist.

It's complex, yet simple at the same time.

Greed and almighty money is our down-fall.

Eliminate greed, and anything is possible. Greed leads to the corruption we are seeing and living with.

It would be a nice thing to happen. But the vast majority of Americans are so asleep that its really quite sad. Most do not know about Monsanto and GMO foods. Most think all the oil in the gulf is gone, simply because its"not been on the news in a while". And on and on. You can tell a big difference in generational attitudes as well. Perfect example: I'm 33. The 3 guys I work with are in their early 20s. Every morning we stop at a gas station to fill the work truck up. All of them drop about 20 bucks a piece on sodas, breakfast burritos, lottery scratch offs, energy drinks etc. I sit in the truck and eat whatever I brought for breakfast. I might go in to get a newspaper. And then they do the same thing on the way home for lunch! I get called cheap, tightwad, whatever. And it struck me the other day how my parents and grandparents generation would see those things as just being thrifty and having good sense. Today, you're almost mocked for wanting to save your money and not be a good consumer.

And if you mention anything of remote interest happening in the world they all just get an empty look on their face. And are very ignorant of other cultures. But they know exactly when the new season of the Biggest loser starts, the differences between the weapons on Call of Duty MW2, and Black ops, and who the falcons and Jets draft picks are gonna be. Its a sad state of affairs here.

Nice thought, will never come to fruition though. Our government will never allow these large corporations to fail. Sure we can all "vote with our money" by not buying products at these mega-stores. They don't really care though because as soon as profits fall and they are about to go bankrupt, our government steps in and bails them out with what? Our money. Guess you didn't really get to make that vote now did you? Because we all know our government isn't going to ask our opinion when it comes to bailing these companies out. It's all one big racket.

When I was growing up I lived in a sleepy little corner of NE Ohio. One of the biggest employers in the area was a large chemical company. Well this chemical company was shut down because they got caught burying toxic waste on their property. Care to take a guess as to what happened to this company? Bailed out? No, there was no such thing then. They simply closed up shop, as a chemical company, and the owners started a new business. Doing what you ask? Cleaning up toxic waste sites. Yep, and they got the contract from the federal government to clean up the mess they made. They made millions off of that contract.

Voting with our money just doesn't cut it anymore. We need to stand up and remind every politician, banker, big corporation, etc. just who this damn country belongs to.

I know the tea party is a bit of a write off with Sarah Palin and a few other high jacking the show, but Ron Paul looks to be one of the remaining few trying to hold some decency in the system. The best way for America to get out of these problems is to try and support him, there are other ways but it starts to get messy. I do support Ron, I like it when he stands up and speaks his peace of mind, but he would only be a bump in the road in the long run…who would stand up after him? I’m sorry, but I can't see anyone after him, I know they are out there but the media is controlled as to what information is released, they are the only ones who can kick-start a revolt... they do have the power, but that power is controlled by Corporate America. When there is no information there is no unrest, business as usual…

I have read some other postings here on ATS regarding an uprising or revolution, and I am fully aware that America is nowhere in the ball park as to being at that point in history. We are being controlled with the all mighty news media, Laws being enacted to prevent public socialisms in large or small groups (no loitering), even the internet is being watched and monitored by them and worst of all TV is being broadcast to support Corporate America “ever tried to watch a program without having 5+ minutes of commercials every ten minutes to 15 minutes?”. And as long as Corporate America is supported we are controlled. It’s sad to say, but true.

I know it is a sad situation. While the economy is functioning most people are just happy to buy their MacDonald's and watch tv. Inflation is steadily growing and there are no sighs of it slowing down, if hyper inflation takes hold then there will be a lot of hungry and angry people around. It is another way things could change, it is messier than the usual government processes. This is what is currently going on in Northern Africa, parts of the southern EU maybe next, if the chain reaction keeps going then America may get its turn. This is just one of many possible scenarios, one other thing you can do now is have a back up plan if TSHTF.

By the way, if you enjoy your way of life and think that the pursuit of more money is good...
You might not want to read this.

BUT:

WE, the people, of the United States have been lied to. We have been deceived...
Our pursuit of happiness has been manipulated into a pursuit if money. I.E.. Greed.
We, the people, have been raised and taught, through the education system, that what we need to do in life is MAKE MORE MONEY. The things we have are not good enough...we must make more, or want more.
Because $5.00 is not enough. We need to make $5,000.00.
The house you have is not big enough, get a bigger one.
The price of that t-shirt will only make you $1 profit....charge more to make more.
The cost to pay American workers cuts into your profit...offload the company to China; make more profits.
Taxes don't cover all the spending we have done; Increase taxes to unbearable heights.


I don't care who you are, or where you are from...in all reality, we are chasing the wrong dream.
We are chasing an ever-changing lust for wealth.
The television directs our lust into bigger TV's, more expensive cars, and bigger-than-yours houses.
It's all about an egocentric catalyst that generates more wealth.
I haven't understood yet, this obsession.
I only know I hate how it controls people.

Think about it, readers!
You don't need these things! They are luxuries!
WE have an insatiable appetite for things we don't need.
When did we go from necessities to all-out luxuries?

Until we all realize what is important to us, which absolutely does NOT involve money...or the TV...
Things will not change.

I don't know when our obsession with wealth began, I just know it will control your life.
Because I'd say 95% of the population lets money control their lives.
Money is America's GOD.
Period.

Want a revolution?
TELL PEOPLE THEY CAN NO LONGER MAKE MONEY.

Oh wait...that should be taking place as we speak...
Because our own gov't has spent it's allowance for 300 years.

I too agree with these sentiments. I think at this point, one of the best ways of starting to fix things would be to go after corporate America, their money is their strength. So, it only makes sense to put them in a situation for them to start losing it, and there are a couple of ways to go about it. Either stop doing business with them and/or manipulate the stock market to our favor, well, at least out of their favor. As it was suggested earlier, this is complicated but simple at the same time, but it is just as simple and complicated for the TPTB as well, so we should start using their own rules against them. After all, it is the businesses that need us more than them, we just need to find a way to break through the illusion that has been created around all these modern conveniences that corporate America has somehow tricked us into believing that we need. But how do you make people realize that they need food and water more than they need the latest iphone, that in itself is a great challenge of the century. I feel that people do more feeling than thinking, which spawns all this politically crap and the fear of saying something that may hurt someone feelings or pride.

But we need someone to start the movement to bring the people like us out of the shadows and set some sort of plan. Heck, I would be the first to jump on board, provided it did not interfere with my morals.

The plan: no guns... we take our country back by force with using their weapon - money.

hello im new

im with u on the fact that i also think the entire country is what i like to call a mass brain washing cause thats what it is brain washing so i dont think we will have the necessary force to have another revolution believe me i want one im so sick of the gov ass raping us with no lube that # hurts but i dont think it has to do exactly with corporations if there was to be another revolution i think it would have to be more aimed at the government so in short i think there definitely NEEDS to be a revolution but that it should be focused on the corrupt gov that we have been dealing with for wat 40-50 years and we need to reformat the gov so the power is to the people not "higher ups"

Just imagine how we could affect massive changes if more people were self-reliant(or the desire to be) rather than government-reliant. Now, how do you get this through peoples head on how to do more with less?
