The National Sheriffs’ Association on Wednesday named Arizona’s Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu “Sheriff of the Year.”

Sheriff Babeu is taking a tough stand against illegal immigration, as well as the Obama administration and Homeland Security.

“[Napolitano] continues this mantra of everything is just fine; unprecedented resources have been added; the border’s more secure than ever before,” Babeu said. “She does not speak to the fact that more people this past fiscal year came through the Tucson section of Arizona and across our border than were apprehended.”

“This shows you how divorced from reality the secretary of homeland security really is,” Babeu said.

Paul Babeu is so tough on the drug cartels that a "green light" has been given by the drug cartels to assassinate Babeu, and investigations have revealed they are credible. However, since the resources are tight, Babeu refuses to have additional security

More outrageous is that the federal government is suing Arizona for trying to enforce FEDERAL law!

conservative columnist George Will said on ABC's This Week that the new law only reiterates federal crimes.

"What the Arizona law does is make a state crime out of something that already is a crime, a federal crime," he said.

Here is a pdf of the Arizona law

proponents of the Arizona law have argued that's why new state immigration rules are needed; federal authorities are not doing a consistent job of enforcing immigration laws that are already on the books.

Arizona governor Jan Brewer states

"It is wrong that our own federal government is suing the people of Arizona for helping to enforce federal immigration law. As a direct result of failed and inconsistent federal enforcement, Arizona is under attack from violent Mexican drug and immigrant smuggling cartels,"

But the federal government is not happy with Arizona trying to enforce their own laws.

A federal judge on Wednesday blocked some of the toughest provisions in the Arizona illegal immigration law, putting on hold the state's attempt to have local police enforce federal immigration policy.

Paul Babeu states that he is not against immigration, just illegal immigration.

“We’re against breaking the law and we want to protect America,” Babeu said. “We’re for immigration – legal immigration.”

So if the federal government is not enforcing their own laws, how do they have any right to tell Arizona not to do it for them? Maybe if the drug cartels were in their own backyard they would have a different say. I say this is a state issue and so let the states deal with it. It's bad enough they are merely trying to enforce federal law, something they wouldn't have to do if the feds did their job, but now the federal government is suing them for trying to enforce federal law.

Because "racial pride" is ignorant and racist as long as it comes from white people; But illegal immigrant Mexicans replacing flying U.S.flags with Mexican flags is "enlightened"and an icon of tolerance?...

If Cartels had a greenlight on him, he would have already gotten tagged.

Furthermore, Straw buyers from Arizona are helping to arm the cartels. I think Arizona would be better served going after the criminal enterprises on the US side who are helping the cartels prosper. IMO, the majority of these drugs aren't being hand delivered to American streets by the Mexican cartels. You have gangs and individuals of all colors involved.

"The massive size of this operation exemplifies the magnitude of the problem — Mexican drug lords go shopping for war weapons in Arizona," said Dennis K. Burke, the U.S. attorney for Arizona, who announced the raids at a press conference in Phoenix.

Members of the supremacist gang Aryan Brotherhood are collaborating with organized crime groups the Mexican Mafia and the Tijuana Cartel to smuggle illegal drugs both in state and federal prisons, and on the California-Mexico market.
