In fact, there are few countries anywhere with all their central Internet connections in one place or so few places that they can be severed at the same time. But the idea of a single "kill switch" to turn the Internet on and off has seduced some American lawmakers, who have pushed for the power to shutter the Internet in a national emergency.

finance.yahoo.com...

The Senate Homeland Security Committee approved a comprehensive cybersecurity bill in June, only to have it repeatedly criticized in the media as providing the president with the authority to shut down portions of the Internet in the event of an emergency.

And just think all these Laws they make up constantly infringing upon our Rights are happening while we are in the comforts of our own homes feeling safe and sound. Nighty Nite ATS!

This truly boils my blood!! In the event of an emergency is when we would need it MOST. Tha's what I think. In my opinion.....they don't want people to be able to post videos or communicate with the outside world for controll purposes. Anybody....gibve me one good reason this makes sense, please????

What national emergency would warrant the use of such measures, except when the government turns against there own people. Communication is key, in any form. America is due for something but that something is a revolution.

Come what may

Whoops double post:

Doesn't this effect freedom of speech? Also, whats the use of disabling local internet when if you were under attack you would block anything coming from another country...unless the threat was...in your own country.

That would be a stupid move.

You do realize that if you cut off people's access to porn they would immediately riot? Sorry to be so crass, but it's true.
