I have shot some of these myself in AZ, snapping pictures just into the night sky....
I wonder what it is or what causes it?

Shakey hands and slow shutter speed me thinks...

EDIT: Or long exposure time, or something...I have no idea, but I know I'm right.

I think it's a machine where people can make drawings and it shows on the sky, Im not sure but I saw a video a long time ago about it. I'll see if I can find it.

I found it!

Could this be it?

Hey cool pics but what you need is a high speed camera. because waht it kinda looks like is an effect of light when you take pictures of it.

Now when you tok these pictures could you see the lines? or was it one spot?

I've seen this effect before numerous times. I'm 90% sure it's shakey hands and long exposure time.

The EXIF data on the images show:

Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) [0x829A] 2/1 second ===> 2 second
Lens F-Number / F-Stop [0x829D] 28/5 ===> ƒ/5.6
Exposure Program [0x8822] creative program (slow program, depth of field)

I'm obviously not an expert, can anybody tell if that's slow?

take a picture of your computer case with the side off so you can see the fans.

now turn off the flash and turn on some low lighting so you can light up the case without the flash.

compare the pics...

The pic with the flash will make the fans stand still due to the high light/ shutter speeds.
The pic with the low lighting will look like the fan is a total blur... its all in how the camera processes the light...

True, but if you know how to use your camera... you would know what you are taking a pic of...

The best way to get a shot of these lights would be to get a decent HD camcorder.... Still frame images in low light will NEVER develop correctly unless you have a very expensive setup.
