The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Taxation is a necessary evil in a modern society - or even in simply a fairly large gathering of humanity. I don't agree with the ways that taxes have become an unequal and opportunistic venture, in regard to the United States, but I do understand the need for taxes.

I enjoy driving on roads, having street lights, being able to call 911 when something goes horribly wrong, etc.

Charity is a wonderful concept. But to expect peoples good intentions to be enough to carry the burden of an entire societies needs is just naive in my opinion.

Why should you have to pay to live on a Planet that you were born on? Why must you spend your days working at jobs you hate, simply because of economic reasons? Why can't we follow our hearts to careers that bring us joy? Why are my brothers and sisters ill fed, thirsty, ill clothed and homeless? Where is equity? Where is Justice? Where is righteousness for the sake of itself?

i like the nhs, fire brigade and even the police at times. i also like being able to walk on pavements, drive on roads, go to a library from time to time and i love the fact that my son gets to go to school 5 days a week.
i also like being able to take my son to a nice park and having my way home lit up at night so i dont get lost or scared.

anyone else agree with me even if the nhs is irrelevant to your nation.

Couldn't agree with you more, what I don't like is paying for a war on the other side of the planet in regards to someone's/something's private agenda... I don't like paying for the meth that meth heads get once a week or whatever... so on and so forth.

I just wish it were all managed better, I wish that the republic had a better say in what goes where...

You can say that our vote is a way to manage it, but most individual's are corrupt... Let a computer manage where money goes?? Payroll? lol

Just my 2 cents

Yeah but what manner of road are you enjoying?

If the government had built the road system and then turned it over to private interests over time our road system would be taken care of. Taxes pay for schools too but they're total crap. And thanks to collective bargaining practices in GOVERNMENT (where they get to extort more money out of the people for less work) we can't fire the people who are helping to drag down our education system

Let face it, government can't do it. I think when it comes to education the more local it gets the better. I'm all for abolishing the Dept of Education. Just because we pay taxes for a service we consider indispensable doesn't mean the quality of service that is being provided for the price is equally so.

Taxes are used to pay off DEBT!

Your fire department, police, sidewalks, roads, bridges... guess what?? They come from STATE taxes, not Federal.

I don't think anyone minds contributing to those things, but nobody should be paying taxes so that the banksters and their friends can continue borrowing absurd amounts of money and use our tax money to pay the juice. (interest)

The money you pay in Federal taxes goes towards the interest that has been accumulating since the 1930's.

This is how much is taken in (including all revenues, not just taxes):

And this is how much is spent:

We're all slaves, no matter how you cut it.

VXN,

We have private roads in the US. They are those neat ones you have to go through a booth to get onto, and then, often, pay even more when you exit.

If the private sector ran the roads we'd have so many toll booths that getting to work would involve 20 checkpoints and 20 payments.

It's an unavoidable fact that the instant Corporations get into the picture, they begin figuring out how to charge more and more for the same product.

For this reason, among a couple of others, public roads are my preference.

1) Fed Income Tax does NOT go to pay for bridges, roads, infrastructure, or anything else. This "money" goes wholly to pay the national debt. 2) What is the National Debt? It is the Interest on the money that the Federal Reserve LOANS to the gov't and in turn other smaller banks. 3) I am not at the "bottom" of the social whatever-ya-want-to-call-it. Freedom in this country, or any other, can never be realized when enslaved to the Central Bank (FRB) which controls its supply of (fiat) money. 4) A currency based on debt is doomed to fail. Debt = slavery. FRNs are debt in perpetuatude. The FRS and IRS are not truly government agencies. They are foreign entities acting on behalf of international bankers that have been running the Greatest Show on Earth for far too long.

Taxation IS the politically correct term for SLAVERY!

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Already they have raised up a monied aristocracy that has set the government at defiance. The issuing power (of money) should be taken away from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs." - Thomas Jefferson

I too don't mind taxation for roads, etc. but what I don't want to pay taxes for is towards providing food, etc. to lazy ass people who lay up and have several children out of wedlock. They get free or low rent because of having that many kids, seem to be able to afford the latest cellphones with all the bells and whistles, and get a whopping big TAX REFUND due to having all those children, even though they did not pay much if anything into the tax system.
I get up before the sun comes up to go to work...I have personal responsibility...and DESPISE providing support to the above.

There are ways of dividing the road system up that don't necessarily include corporate influence, but that's not really my point.

In Vegas, for instance, Harmon ave. is infamous for ALWAYS BEING UNDER CONSTRUCTION. It was under construction, in the same spot, for 10 years. It got to the point where any traffic that could have been handled by side streets like Harmon Ave. and Koval Lane were dumped onto the LVB(Strip). Why? Because the union workers sat on it and milked the millions of dollars that went into it.

Because of this several night clubs like the Drink closed down due to lack of access. And the only direct route from the Strip to Hard Rock Hotel was cut off entirely. The only casino to NOT expand in that ten year period just happened to be the Hard Rock.

If I'm going to pay money for something I want work done and a finished product that my eyes can see, ears can hear, or tongue can taste. If I see no change for 10 years worth of spending it is a waste, and therein takes place the theft the OP is talking about.

A Corporation would FIRE you, and rightly so, for stealing their time. The city, state, and federal governments just sweeten the deal for the worst offenders with this crap.

i must say that i agree with you too on the war part, and being english there is not much difference between where my taxes or your taxes go apart from the nhs. it is wrong that we can go to war without a vote, but i suppose the media would choose what the masses would vote for anyway so on that part we will have to just put up or shut up i suppose.

We had a similar situation here, in the small town I live in... but it wasn't the unions which were to blame. We had a particularly seedy bar and keeping the construction zone up caused it to shut down.

Sometimes politics does make sense!

I do see your point and I am no fan of the government. I strongly believe that the tax codes need to be trashed in favor of a more logical process. I also hate knowing my tax money pays crooks to be career politicians. But these grievances don't make me want to opt out of the system. They inspire me to pursue voting for those I think will fix it.

I don't advocate opting out either. But we need to acknowledge and internalize the damage government does to our prosperity because, like anything else, it is run by people. People anywhere are met with temptation and temptation is very powerful Heff, and part of a very basic sense of being.

If we were any other species this kind of behavior would be seen as barbaric...But since we put paperwork in place of chewing the dead corpse outright we tend to endure it longer. That's why we need to keep systems of authority small and in check at all times. Taxation, at least the way it is currently practiced, is in fact theft.
