I have never seen these before. Are they normal?






here is the link to the Jet Stream Position page. But the loops will be off of it in just a few days.

They make more sense when one sees them in motion.

At the site above I usually set it to 20 days
and then click "build animation"

Yes.


...errr, you just tricked me into a one line answer.
A violation of the ATS rules.

I guess I should elaborate.



It's like topography, or elevation lines showing the altitude of a mountain.
But sence the stream is more like a river, it tends to be in a line.
In the case of these isolated loops it's similar, by analogy,
to a loop of the Mississippi that is cut off and
becomes a lake.
