A Tribute to the Armed Services

No, this is not a pro-war thread. It is a tribute to those brave men and women who are presently serving. Additionally, it applies to all those vets.
Yes, it features the British Armed Services, and I am very proud to have been a member, as are both of my boys now.
May you ALL return home safely. Not only the Brits but all allied soldiers.

Lovely post Sir! I would also like to add my own tribute to all those, employed or not, combatants who have had to defend themselves, their loved ones, their neighbours, their friends and their land from oppression.

My grandfather was in the maquis and paid dearly for it.

Without the brave efforts of the French underground during WW2, the SOE and the Allied operations on mainland Europe would have never got underway in the manner they did. Their sacrifice saved thousands.

I would never give thanks to those people. I have never been in the military and none of you know what these poeple do, and you should not be thankful for them in any way.

torturing innocent irish people in homes is not a right to ask for thanks.

I spent 20 years in the military, I know exactly what they do. I have been to Ireland too.
You are entitled to my point of view and you yours. Before you condem the guy on the ground, look first at policy. This is what young men, on both sides, die for. So I say, think of the individual sacrifice.

No need to get angry at me. This was not directed at any of you service people, i am just stating my position on this.

I know higher up than the uk police where involved in ruining my life in london, and i have no interest in these things.

My friend, I am not in the slightest bit angry at you. Believe it or not, one of my closest friends used to be on the "other side" during the troubles. In the end, we were all soldiers fighting to enforce the will of others.
Those that are willing to serve and put their lives on the line should be remembered.

Although I know live in France, I work in Germany. On the 11/11 of each year, I go to the war memorial in Ingolstadt to remember ALL those that fell in the fighting. The young Germans did not want to fight and die any more than our Tommies.

In any conflict, it is the old men talking and young men dying;
Presently, I have two of my kids serving, one in bomb disposal and one in the guards; Although it is highly likely that they will, I hope that they never have to endure the rigors of combat.

Dear Andy1033,
With all due respect Sir, that was a bit uncalled for. If that is your opinion fine, but posting it here wasn't justified. You can hate, or be angry for whatever reasons. You state issues in Ireland, well that would justify your "issues" with the military for sure, but honestly that is a small pebble in a very large pond.

Without the risks and lives of so many young men and women our lives as a whole would simply be unbearable.

I respect your opinion, but there is a time and place mate.

I have the greatest respect for the soldiers.
I wanted to join the army when i was younger,but my parents didn't let me.

True words. All fallen soldiers are brothers, one way or another, regardless of which side they were on.
