Nevada councilwoman, husband found dead

(CNN) -- A Nevada city councilwoman and her husband were found dead Tuesday, apparently of single gunshot wounds, Mesquite officials said.

Donna Fairchild and Bill Fairchild were found in a residence, according to a press statement from this city on Interstate 15 near the border with Arizona. Police got a call from the residence at 4:15 a.m., the statement said.
Autopsies are scheduled for Wednesday. Results from the Clark County Coroner's Office were expected to take four to six weeks, according to the statement.

A statement from the mayor's office and City Council said, "It is with a heavy heart that we make this announcement. Mesquite has lost two citizens that have devoted their life to public service. On behalf of myself and the City Council, this is a tremendous loss to our community and we express our deepest sympathies to the Fairchild's family, loved ones and friends."

City officials would make no other statements on the circumstances.

Donna Fairchild served on the City Council from 2001-07 and was re-elected in 2009. She moved to Mesquite with Bill Fairchild in 1999 after they both retired from the Denver Police Department, the city said.
Donna Fairchild also has been an EMT/paramedic and news reporter for KIMN/KYGO radio in Denver. In Mesquite, Bill worked at a recreation center, was a member of the Virgin Valley Honor Guard and the Veterans of Foreign War.

The Fairchilds were married for 21 years, the city said.

Interesting, in Mesquite and found dead usually means someone in the corrupt police force or in city government working with casino owners etc got pissed off.

You do not mess with these people and live. Though I am betting this one will be swept away with some random explanation.

Interesting also because I was in Mesquite Sunday, all day (dining gambling), with family of course, and drove through there this morning from LA.

Small town, peaceful community. Perfect place for some really bad people to hide/hang out.

These people were former Denver cops... Just a guess, but maybe they got too far into what really goes on in Mesquite and were silenced?

I'll tell you some things about that place that you would never believe, and, if you investigate it, you too would find yourselves "dead in a home in Mesquite".

What happens in Vegas, is often settled in Mesquite.

Are they really dead, or just dead-ish? Are they of Brazilian descent?

Dead as dead can be, worse than Brazilian, they were from Denver.

I've lived near Mesquite for a few years now, about a 40 min. drive. Was a fun place to gamble and do the Vegas thing for a while without having to drive all the way to Vegas.

It is also home to some really bad people with a serious past, and influence over things still going on in Nevada. A retirement home of sorts for some "self made multi-millionaires" and a place to launder monies and shelter income.

She was right, Do it Best, is about the best thing Mesquite has going for it, as far as legit business goes.

Are you really willing to believe that the motive here was over NINETY FOUR dollars and SIXTY cents?

Mayor Susan Holecheck and City Attorney Cheryl Truman Hunt were to ask the city council to consider sanctioning Fairchild through possible reprimand, removal from boards or expulsion for filing a $94.60 mileage reimbursement request with the city for a January 4 Nevada Development Authority board meeting she allegedly did not attend, according to an item on the council agenda.

Yeah, maybe they committed suicide to avoid the public embarrassment?

Doesn't really matter now does it?

You will forget this story, like many others that have come and gone, and are in some ways similar and related.

I'm not saying thats what happened, only that it is the simplest explanation to give the press.

I could drop some lines here that would cause a lot of trouble for a lot of people so I wont, only to say that it is probably better to take whatever is made public in this case as the absolute truth.

Currently under investigation, I'm sure the agony of ridicule and a possible public case of fraudulent use of public funds drove this couple to murder/suicide.

Case closed? ... should be soon enough.
