The answer to the China Getting Our Jobs problem is so simple. Just introduce Unions to the Chinese workforce. That'll work. Look at what Unions did to help America.
The Chinese worker will work unbelievably hard jobs and make next to nothing. They get few if any breaks, or vacation time.
Introduce those Unions. They'll soon be overpaid, and be very proficient in saying "It's not my job.". Taking breaks and reciting that they are mistreated due to Union rules. Complaining that they are only getting a 6% raise with better health benefits, while their neighbor is out of work and would do anything to get a minimum wage job.

Yes Sir! Introduce the Unions to the Chinese and the US trade deficit with China will shrink very quickly.

Would have thought they might already have a city or cities close to this large, but it looks like Tokyo, Japan, is currently number 1 with 32,450,000 people. www.worldatlas.com...

So in reality, this Chinese megacity wouldn't be all that much larger. Just smoosh Tokyo and NYC together and you have it. Neither of these two cities is all that large square mileage-wise either, and China might have a lot more room to expand.

Hope they get their pollution issues under control as they go there.

LOL yuppers and isn't it great that Americans are now working unbelievably hard jobs for next nothing and having a hard time putting food on their tables again....wooooohoooooo....those darn unions for wanting to give the blue collar worker a little better life....shame on them.

but i must say i see more Chinese people smiling with nothing......alot more than an american who has everything.....weird how that works isn't it.

time to start growing your own veg...making your own clothes and feeding your own family.....the happy life seems to be a self sufficent life....

I could not live like that. My nearest neighbor is a mile away. Having grown up in NYC, and having to put up with neighbors banging on the wall if you raised the volume on anything to an audible level, that's the way I like it

The Civil Engineer in me tends to get very excited about prospects of involvement in massive infrastructure projects such as these. I'll try to do a little research in the Construction Journals but it would be interesting to know if any contracts are headed in the direction of UK, European or US based companies. That's always a positive thing.

Fascinating venture and one that looks likely to become successful. I had read a good while back that China had plans to build a mega-city, but at the time the whispers were more hypothetical and rather more speculative on what would be.

Pushing the boundaries as usual. Good for you China.

What would happen if the outsourcing all of sudden was cut drastically and the US started making it's own goods?

It's free market baby. Americans love free market. Ironic isn't it? America might get killed by her own son "Free market".

USA needs cheap labor. Open Mexican border or if you don't like immigrants buy Chinese goods or work for 3rd world country salary!

I do not understand the point you are trying to make here

There is a difference between box pushing and offering a solution
there's always room for value-add in a free market

So I don't get how free market economics could kill the U.S.
If anything it would only save it

The union won't work in their system of government.

My question is why on earth do they want such a highly concentrated population? That is one of their biggest issues over there.

Heck, that is one of the biggest issues with the overpopulation scaremongers. It's not that our planet is overpopulated, per se. It's that our populations are too concentrated in certain areas.

A 42 million population, in China of all places with their 1 child limits in cities, is a pretty silly idea.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

May as well-the USA and the West have been on time with their re-payments so....

Spend away.

China is in a race to build a modern nation before the demographic crunch sets in. Much like the US and EU spent a great deal of wealth in the early and mid 20th century building a productive infrastructure before it became impossible to both care for its elderly and invest in physical infrastructure, China is in a race with demographics. Realistically, they have 20 or so years before they have to bear the cost, as the US and EU currently do, for an aging population.

I'm not crying here that all manufacturing are steadily going from USA to 3rd world countries.
I'm not saying USA will die. I say that it might cease to exist as a sole world's superpower.
Get over it. Or start more wars.

This attitude annoys me. Americans crying that they can't afford to drive big cars and live in a big house with a white fence.

In free market world merges together and wealth is evenly distributed throughout the world. Some country's economic is growing - their lives slowly becomes better. But all you can think about is yourself.

US is a big child - "China is growing! Mommy they are taking my manufactures. Do something! I want candy! It's all mine!"

Unions may not work now, but they will.

Every nation that undergoes massive industrialization sees it workers unite and form organizations that promote workers wages and safety.

China is no different. Its workers are human with human needs.

The question is when the workers do rise up, does it tear China apart? Stratfor thinks it will.
www.businessinsider.com...-doomed-1

China will probably try to crack down on strikes and protests. Before you know it the country implodes.

We can speculate on whats going on or we can examine the facts. I prefer not to chase false hopes of flying Chinese saucers but rely on foreign and domestic matters that have actually come to pass….

“It is also vital that the relationship be a balanced one in terms of trade and commercial opportunity. When the final trade data for 2010 come in, the U.S. deficit in manufactured goods with China is likely to have set a new record of about $290 billion, exceeding the 2008 record of $277 billion.

China’s leadership has set itself a broad strategic objective of making the Chinese domestic economy more innovation-oriented and decreasing China’s reliance on foreign technology. The leadership considers these policy imperatives as critical to China’s long-term economic development, national security and global competitiveness.
There is nothing wrong with seeking to spur innovation and technology. Just about every major country, including the United States, pursues that objective. But the United States and other countries follow the global rules they have adopted and seek to promote development within those rules. China’s policies, however, bend and break the rules. Its policies come at the specific expense of foreign companies and competitors, essentially forcing the transfer of foreign technology to China.” ---shopfloor jan 18th

China is guilty of reverse engineering and blatant stealing of American technology. Pirating brand goods and commercial products. Add to this the free trade and cheap labor that comes from that nation. More and more companies, and not just American companies, are outsourcing manufacturing in China.
Talks with Obama were nothing more that blowing hot air as China didn’t want to budge on its agenda. We have imported from China and have gotten almost nothing in return

What we need to do:
We can take a harder stance as collective countries and force China to fall in line with what the rest of the globe wants or we end up falling by the wayside and watch China dominate. We cannot let them dictate our economic future.

Understand redistribution of wealth is not a good thing....it is called socialism. it is taking from the hard working people and giving to the lazy. History proves it doesnt work. The wealth should not be equal ANYWHERE! When you take the awards away, people stop working for anything. this my friends is fact. You may argue that it shouldnt be this way blah blah blah and we all should live in harmony but way up... it is human nature and is the best way to get people to be all they can. without incentive we grow stagnant.

HUH? open the mexican border? are you nuts? Coming from AZ I personally know that what would happen is already happening. Immigrants come to the us and send their money back. this does nothing for our economy. Regardless how cheap the labor is (and just for your info....mexican labor is not that cheap anymore...they get paid the same wages that everyone else does on the job. fact is they refuse to work for less and rightfully so...I wouldnt either). If you work in a nation and the spend in another nation the benefit goes to the country you are pumping money into. Where are you getting your logic?

I have three thoughts on what could happen.

1) Repeat of London during the industrial revolution. China might get overwhelmed and turn it into one giant scum bucket.

2) They make the city and it goes well for them

3) They make the city and it goes well for a while and then plumments once the US starts making its own stuff again and they have no work.

For some reason at this point 3 doesn't seem to stand a chance

Ugh this is a stupid idea by the Chinese. Sounds likje a 42 million person cess-pool if you ask me. But hey if they can help contain all that waste in a concentrated spot then good for them!
