Thanks for the replies! I think there is quite a lot of collaborative evidence here from other posters to show that this is not really a laughing matter.
It does kind of make me wonder about the motives of some of the people who appear over eager to dismiss this.
I got rid of the books, dumped them in someone elses garbage. My first thought was that I did not want anything to do with them, or indeed for them to be found in my possession. I suppose it could have been some crazy friend, but so far everyone has denied it.
I have been giving this some thought, and it might sound insane but the only other unusual thing that happened to me recently was chatting to someone online who made a claim on their identity that I just assumed was a joke at the time. This person, if indeed they were being truthfull, we chatted at length and seemed to be on the same wavelength, I would feel extremely hesitant at revealing them, due to the possible repercussions and now I am starting to wonder, could they be somehow involved in this, and why?

I would like to bring up a new technique.
What I call "Spot Checking".

This is not a full time surveillance ploy
but rather a sporadic sampling of your
mental status.

Every once in a while, you may get frustrated
with current events and post something that
is quite literally close to the edge in their opinion
of being mentally unstable.

They then spot check you to see if you have
really lost it. Most times they realize you are
just venting and need an outlet but they have
to spot check you to be sure.

Spot check includes:

Seeing if you've purchased guns or ammo lately.
Planting an agent in your midst to see if u have an attitude change.
Check health records to see if ur on any new medications.
Check criminal history to see if you've been arrested recently.
Read ur e-mail to see if ur planning anything harmful.

In the past year, I have noticed on at least 3 occasions
where I have noticed out of the ordinary people observing
me in places I frequent. These are people I do not know
and just show up suddenly. I live in a very rural setting
and I know just about everybody (one of the good things
about a small town). So when a new face arrives, they
stand out like a sore thumb. They are out of their element.

One of them I confronted with a friendly chat and introduced
myself. We chatted about the weather and the place we were
in. I also brought up the fact that he was new to these parts
and I welcomed him and shook his hand. He showed back up
2 more nights after that and we greeted each other once again
and then he disappeared and I never saw him again.

I dont know if this counts but there has recently been someone in a blue police type unifrom in library where i am using computers to investigate this stuff. I have never seen this person here before. and i have been going here for two years. as well i frequently am seeing and hearing helecopters over my neighboorhood at least once a week.

If there is such a thing, i must of been observed so many times. No crimes still in my life to justify what they did, but after 19 years you would think that they would get the message that i am not doing anything.

I would say just ignore any of those people, and be weary about letting new people into your life and your ok.

It has been happening to me for 7 years. I have been slowly and systematically driven out of my life and wherever I go the problems are the same. There is little you can do to stop it given the ways some of it are done. There was a mysterious "Londonuser" monitoring my email activity at work. Those I worked with would bait me into confirming my positions on things by harassing me then adopt the opposite position and use it to push me further and further away. It is difficult to describe the insidious nature of it as it seems to be the case that these people are being briefed on what to do behind my back before executing it. The manager used to wait until I left my desk to tell the team there would be a meeting at the end of the day, at a time when I had usually left. Someone from the other office was ordered to phone everyone in my team, 1 after the other, excluding me. They used someone else's phone to try and avoid detection when I obtained telephone records to prove it. I would be here forever describing what went on in that job but I have experienced nothing like it. Most lately I have found my mail is being intercepted and redirected, my internet orders are being tampered with, my telephone may be being bugged but is definitely being used as a tool to send third parties to pester me with unwanted calls, my online communications account is being tampered with and people I am supposed to be able to trust are getting information out of me before it is being weopanised against me via third parties. When I ask any of them about these things they try to explain my concerns away but what they say either fails to fit the facts or has major inconsistencies when you get what should be the same story from each of more than 1 party who were present at the relevant time. An example would be a neighbour who apparently does not know because they have no internet yet they are very active on their social media site. Another would be the person who said they thought they saw the dodgy courier I described round the corner when the "courier" I was referring to drove off in the opposite direction 10 minutes beforehand. The couriers are always in pairs now, wearing generic blue outfits and yellow vests and driving plain white vans. Appointments are being made by these entities yet when I am near to attending those appointments, I receive confirmation that the appointment has been changed to a date 3 days before so I have missed it before being informed. Couriers have been involved. I place orders. I used to get confirmation emails about delivery information but that stopped a few weeks ago. Now I get no confirmation. I basically get a ticket through the door stating the item is with a neighbour with the courier never having knocked. The reference number is always unrecognisable on the internet tracking systems. I get the parcel from the neighbour. I then get the email delivery confirmation through into my email account which I should have been sent before the delivery time but which I get once I have actually obtained the item from a neighbour. This has happened 4 times in a row with different couriers and different online sellers. Some orders I place are mysteriously cancelled even though the items are in stock. After 4 years of near perfect internet shopping experiences, I am having trouble with every order now, at every stage of the process. The last internet delivery was a bait and switch experience as described above when you get the delivery notification after you have received the item from a neighbour you did not authorise delivery to. These notifications always contain an updated tracking number or the online system is updated after the event whereas the information is scrambled before then. The internet delivery before that was the same. The internet delivery before that resulted in: attempt 1 being lost in transit; attempt 2 being the wrong item; attempt 3 being delivered to supposedly 2 locations; 2 separate couriers attending to pick up attempt 2 to return it. The internet delivery before that was damaged beyond repair the first time and delivered properly the second. People ask me things in group situations and information I give is converted into emails that are sent to my email account via third parties. I mentioned domestic gas supply. 3 days later I got an unsolicited sales call from a gas company even though I had just changed my number and it was meant to be ex-directory and I am on the TPS. I mentioned where I would like to work when I next got a job, 3 days later I got an email with jobs applicable to that precise area without having had any similar message for over a decade. I was asked if I went to a gym. I received a flyer from that gym 4 days later, the only correspondence I had ever received from that gym. I received a flyer from a local paintshop 1 day. 6 days later a person I know asked if I had heard of that very paint shop. I receive unsolicited phone calls on numbers I repeatedly change and do not give out, always the same type of call - life insurance. I receive repeated unsolicited emails from life insurance companies and money lenders and debt specialists, never having received them since before about 3 months ago. I sent an email to party 1 asking if they could tell where I had been. The message system on my TV/broadband/phone online account was updated to show an engineer was doing background checks on something then a document came through my door which had direct relevance to what I had been doing on the day in question. I could go on.
