Americans need to realise that the Brits faced the German bombing during the last war. A hand full of terrorists are nothing in comparision. They don't like to boast about what happened in the war but believe me Islamic terrorists are not exploding bombs here on the quiet or getting Sharia law on the statute books. Frankly I think fundamanetalist moslems are a great threat to fellow moslems.

Ah, forgot about that one. It was more of a badly planned car crash though, really.

I've said it before, but these Islamic terrorists would have a hard time causing an explosion at a bomb factory. They plan for years, dither around and when it comes to crunch time, they more often than not fail. I could, with £1000 and a few hours prep, cause as much, if not more, mayhem than the 7/7 bombers and still be alive at the end of it.

I don't think that "we" are under Islamic control. What I do see is a slow, growing, acceptance of sharia "thought." Much like in America where it isn't just one issue but a mind-set that has developed over time. I enjoy my bi-passport issue because I can look at America from a foreign viewpoint. I enjoy that same freedom looking at Britian with the same.

But what is sharia thought? Seriously, what people tend to forget is that the UK doesn't hold as much xenophobia as some other countries.

Ok, 'some' Islamic types do cause problems, but then again so do right wing skinheads, or lone gunmen or gangs of disillusioned kids.

But, the UK is tough, sturdy and tolerant. One tiny fraction of pro-islamic jihad supporters does not represent the hundreds of peaceful muslims who work, live and socialise in the UK.

The REAL problem, the one that causes all the bother is the warped media that accounts for the hatred., the intolerance and the warped demonisation of everyone.

--

OR to put it another way...

Do you honestly think that one of the oldest western civilisations will crumble, bow and fall to a hand full of religious nutters, after we conquered half the planet, survived relatively unscathed after two world wars and years of IRA bombings?

Why should this be any different? We have one of the strongest intelligence networks on the planet, our police (love 'em or hate 'em) are fairer, better trained and better equipped than most other police forces and..... well... Do you honestly think a hand full of people will change the football loving, booze drinking, bacon buttie chewing hordes of people here?

Live and let live. UK muslims don't want to destroy our society. Considering a lot of them are better off in the relative safety of the UK rather than the harsh lands of which they escaped.

If i remember correctly Stu, the alleged terrorists were either killed or arrested, and the only injury sustained was the result of a Glaswegian kicking the terrorist so hard, he broke his own leg.

Possibly luck was on our side.... But it was a naff effort.

Honestly?
The UK side of me thinks that we'll put up with it until it becomes intollerable. And it will. What I admire and cling to so much it it's history, it's depth. The british side of me will always admire the "tradition" that is instilled in all of us.

I'm just afraid to lose it, to be honest.

Yes the bacon buttie is the reason why Britain will never go to sharia law. Especially when the bacon is anointed with HP sauce. Sorry I never found good bacon in the US. just fantastic pancakes. (grin)

I think the world in general is changing.... with globalisation and multiculturalism and local dialects dying out as people move around for work and generic accents become the norm.

But I do think that we (England) will always be the way we are.

I think Mr Lizard put it brilliantly up there.

We love bacon sarnies and footy and beer and we have great humour, as a people.
There are things that are just British... and I can't see us losing them.

I hope not. My mom is a yank, my dad a brit (but he's from Glascow) so we wear a tartan a time or two.

Tradition. It's been drilled into me since I was a pup.

And what I admire about England, is her steadfastness to tradition, to honor, to history.

Heck, my Tea Party friends get shocked when I quote from the Magna Carta.

For an amusing addition, I was in the taxi yesterday morning on the way to work driven by a young Pakistani man and we had an interesting discussion. While being nominally a Muslim, he loved his beer, his women and he was partial to a bacon butty! He was quite surprised to find out that I didn't really like drinking and congratulated me on being a "responsible parent" as too many young men (of all walks of life) loved to booze and party.

I suppose what I am trying to say is, for the most part British Muslims are just like the rest of us. Granted, some may not drink and be more religious, but I do not drink except on special ocassions so as long as we all respect each other, what exactly is the problem? Now, i have my misgivings about the previous Governments open door immigration policy, but that is another matter entirely and not really just a "muslim" issue.

And, just to reassure our rabidly racist American cousins, the UK is still about 80-85% White! Only around 3% of the population is Muslim and the rest are Hindu/Sikh Indians or Afro-Caribbeans. There cannot be a takeover by the Muslims (assuming they even want too) because, quite simply, they lack the numbers.

Just to add to the debate, if they ever get rid of "Bubble and Squeak" I'm tearing up a passport.
Don't cross me on this!

I always find it strange as there isn't a religious meeting house in this district that isn't Christian, I do think there are issues with a minority within Islam, but feel the minority is encouraged by the establishment but the idea we are succumbing to Islam is laughable...

America this America that. Are any of you capable of accepting your own Countries downfalls and stop blaming the U.S for your own screwed up Government?
You are becoming a Islamic dominant Country. That is your Governments fault not ours.

Any proof besides your rabid nonsense?

I know i know, truth hurts. Stop crying all the time about the U.S. You have Islam to worry about in your own Country. You are not too far from Sharia law. You guys already bow down to them. Your Government is too weak to stand up for its own people. Its easy to sit around and whine like a lady about someones Country. But when your Country is even more screwed up and submitting to the Muslims. Talk all you want. Cry like green eyed devils all you want. Still the truth remains. Oh and the proof comes from your own BBC.

The OP and all UK citizens in this thread are obviously Muslims and apologists attempting to hide their invasion of the UK!
Quickly my American friends...to the rescue!

Pffft.

So, to summarise your ramblings

"I have no proof, it's based solely on the fact I'm a racist git and I've already made up my mind because I saw it on the TV"

Ok chap, run along before you hurt your brain. Wouldn't want you to use up all of your 6 brain cells in one go.

Now, if you can come back with any kind of evidence to back up this nonsense, we can have a proper debate like adults.

Exactly man....as we say, "It takes all sorts"

I'm not a big drinker at all.... have cut down to the point of almost not drinking but wasn't always that way.
Used to love drinking and all that jazz.

But yeah.

I've had all kinds of friends and the cap doesn't always fit.

People are people and a lot of the time, they're people before they're religious....which is good.

Who doesn't like a bacon sarnie man? Unless you're veggie

But na, you make good points... people (Americans) are always saying "Oh my god... you're a Muslim country and you will have Sharia law" but as you say, Christianity is still the biggest religion by far in this country.

Of all religious peoples.... Christianity makes up a good 80 odd percent.

I have no fear of England ending up under Sharia law or any other law except our own law.

But then I don't buy the media's BS and campaigns they run, demonizing whoever they see fit.

stu brings up a valid point about the ethnic make up of the uk , as an experiment ask white english people what % of the uk is made up off black or asians most including me grossly ovestimates this number , this is not a slight it just shows you that SOME protest a little too much . and things are not as big a problem as we may think
ps nice to see things have calmed down a bit , on the internet it gets too heated if we conversed face to face i believe its easier to disagree AMICABLY .

Indeed. It also depends on who you ask and where they live. For example, when I was younger I used to live in Reading, a very multi-cultural town and I used to think that, as the population was probably only 50% white that the whole country was like it.

I moved out in 2007 to Wokingham, a mere 7 miles into the Berkshire countryside and the ethnic makeup is totally different. 95% White, if not more.

I've heard people joke that the only black people you see are cleaners and the only Asians drive taxis, it is that monocultural.

Go another 3 miles, deeper into the country, to my parents village and I can guarantee not a single non-white whatsoever.

Seems alot of the one's concerned with the "takeover" are townies, as they only see it from their POV.

my experience is similar to you ive lived in gloucester , maidenhead windsor , madrid and holland isle of wight and now rochdale ive grown up with asians and afro carribean kids , ive worked with people from ghana surinam and tunisia , i wouldn't change a thing ive learned a lot from all these people , talking to someone and becoming freindly with people that come from countries that are so vastly different yet getting on . Theres nothing like it . I truely feel sorry for racists as they miss a hugely enjoyable and rewarding experience due to ignorance.
