Just to note, the Iranian navy employs just 5 capital ships; all frigate class (think US Coast Guard), 3 small corvettes, 15 submarines and swarms of fast attack boats.

Iranian warships coming to Mediterranean and Red Seas

debka.com

Less than 24 hours after the breakdown of its nuclear dialogue with the six world powers in Istanbul, Iran announced plans Sunday, Jan. 23, to senda fleet of warships, including a home-made destroyer, on operational and intelligence-gathering missions to the Red Sea and on to the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal. Parts of the fleet will in fact be deployed in the three waters around Israel's southern and western shores.

Wow, a "home-made" destroyer? What is that? Maybe made of
Balsa wood with a trolling motor armed with a BB gun.
I am sure the Israelies are quivering in their boots.

That's hilarious! It does sound like that the destroyer was just something they threw together at the last second...

Iran is up to something IMO though. They are sneaky and not to be trusted at all. I'm sure that Israel is keeping a close eye on these ships, with their fingers on the trigger...

Arabs have been pissed since a couple of their flotillas and shorerunners have NOT been permitted to run through the offshore blockade.

It's possible they've talked Iran into flexing their muscle to run the blockade.

In which case, the Iranian navy will have a very short, very glorious end.

Much akin to the French navy in WWII.

I imagine the sanctions against Iran are not much fun for them.

This looks like a North Korean style negotiation tactic ... be a pain in the butt, and get something in return to stop being a pain in the butt.

I have grave doubts this will happen or that those ships will traverse the Suez.. especially considering how constricted those waters are and the risks that poses. besides I think Iran has enough problems protecting her own waters.

Grave doubts? Really?

I think it is odd that people think Iran is spreading navy its to help Hezbollah. It is obvious that Hezbollah doesn't need help, they obviously didn't in the previous war, which Israel lost evidently.

The above being said, Iran is spreading its Navy, because US has planned to reduce defense budgets. It is a perfect time for Iran to increase its influence in the area. Also I believe Iran is testing the US strategically. Israel is not even a concern, Israel can't exist without US, just ask the Zionist leader himself:
""for our existence, we need the friendship of the United States of America."" Israeli President

He'll you don't have to go back to WW2 just ask the men on the USS Liberty when that treasonous Robert McNamara recalled air cover and prevented our pilots from protecting a US ship full of US sailors from those barbarian kashnazi zionists that not only attempted to shoot up re ship after a larger flag was hoisted but they also attempted to drop napalm on our boys all parties were well in the know. That ship only had 4 .50calibre guns on it.

It does work though

Unless Iran decides to "buzz" the Israeli coast or escort a flotilla into Gaza. I think they'll find themselves in a losing game of "battleship" if they try that.

Egypt won't allow any of Iran's navy or privately owned ships through the Suez Canal.....Iran knows that!

It's just all hipe and nothing else.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!

Well, no I'm sure the vast majority of Americans aren't evil, but does that mean that Iranians are?

Why would you think such a thing? Because the media and your government has been saying it?

Consider this though. Iran isn't an imperalistic country with hundreds of military bases spread around the globe. The United States and Israel have nuclear weapons. The United States has invaded two Middle Eastern countries.

So tell me.....who do you think is the threat to world peace here?

U.S Military Bases

According to global opinion, even in Western Europe, America is perceived to be the biggest threat to world peace.

Of course most Americans won't hear it. All the world is indoctrinated and they're free and in the right. We're just evil Socialists, brainwashed to hate America, despite our media being pro-America

Yes I do have grave doubts they'll follow through, I have grave doubts as I think it is all hype and will be without substance.

Iran has (IMHO) enough issues protecting her own waters, while also protecting her ships in the Gulf of Aden, let alone expanding those duties to include operations in both the Red Sea and the Med.

Israel, US to steal Lebanon gas

Could be why Iran is sending ships to defend offshore gas reserves to prevent Israel from stealing it!

No. Iran's always been pretty much the opposite of sneaky. The culture has this whole "stupid honest" thing going; even when they were at war with Iraq, they did pretty much everything short of sending strategic memos to the Iraqi army. It woulda looked something like this;

"By the Benevolent Grace of God, the Most Just, the Eternal and Mighty, the Islamic Republic of Iran declares that the righteous solders of revolution, in the name of the Most Merciful God, will be assaulting the imperialist town of Basra, living in subjugation under the Antichrist of Baghdad, who's reign shall crumble and topple before the might of the Most Magnificent God, on the date of Bahman 15 1359!"

The Iranians can be very patient; they can be very subtle... but "sneaky" doesn't really work.

Well, it looks like they are passing through the Suez Canal and Israel is not happy about it.
