Sorry OP

No stars, No flags.

You see I know what these words mean.

socialism/communism

Because I know what they are they do not frighten me.

These days "socialism" is being bandied about as some great boggeyman.

The truth of the matter is the happiest people on this planet live in Norway and Norway is way more socialist them America. France also is considered to have the best healthcare, again more socialist then America. Thats not to say that socialism comes free or is better then any other system, far from it.

Could America stand to be more "socialist"? sure it could. America could stand for a little more "socialism" as far as protecting its jobs and its citizens health.

I will never let a label discourage me from seeking the truth.

The funny thing is, they have pundits who link everyone and his dog to communism/socialism no matter how ridiculous it is

And the dumb general public eats it up like an addict takes another dose of heroin.

Yes - haha how ridiculous that people should believe such nonesense!

THE FABIAN SOCIETY But there was another movement coming to birth at about this same time that eventually gave competition to the hard-core Marxists. Some of the more erudite members of the wealthy and intellectual classes of England formed an organization to perpetuate the concept of collectivism but not exactly according to Marx. It was called the Fabian Society. The name is significant, because it was in honor of Quintus Fabius Maximus Verrucosus, the Roman general who, in the second century B.C., kept Hannibal at bay by wearing down his army with delaying tactics, endless maneuvering, and avoiding confrontation wherever possible.

Unlike the Marxists who were in a hurry to come to power through direct confrontation with established governments, the Fabians were willing to take their time, to come to power without direct confrontation, working quietly and patiently from inside the target governments. To emphasize this strategy, and to separate themselves from the Marxists, they adopted the turtle as their symbol. And their official shield portrays an image of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Those two images perfectly summarize their strategy. It is now 1884, and we find ourselves in Surrey, England observing a small group of these Fabians, sitting around a table in the stylish home of two of their more prominent members, Sydney and Beatrice Webb. The Webbs later would be known world wide as the founders of the London School of Economics. Their home eventually was donated to the Fabian Society and became its official headquarters.

Around the table are such well-known figures as George Bernard Shaw, Arnold Toynbee, H.G. Wells, and numerous others of similar caliber. By the way, the Fabian Society still exists, and many prominent people are members, not the least of which is England’s Prime Minister, Tony Blair. H.G. Wells wrote a book to serve as a guide showing how collectivism can be embedded into society without arousing alarm or serious opposition. It was called The Open Conspiracy, and the plan was spelled out in minute detail. His fervor was intense. He said that the old religions of the world must give way to the new religion of collectivism. The new religion should be the state, he said, and the state should take charge of all human activity with, of course, elitists such as himself in control. On the very first page, he says: “This book states as plainly and clearly as possible the essential ideas of my life, the perspective of my world…. This is my religion. Here are my directive aims and the criteria of all I do.”1

Oh look, a random organization that promotes collectivism...total proof that the US is turning into a communist country, right? LAUGHABLE!!

That's exactly what I mean when I say Beck & Co. are linking everyone and his dog to communism

Communism works beautifully in a world filled with wizards and unicorns but that is where it stops. In order for communism to work the leader needs to be unbiased, not greedy, not verging for the lust of power, and the leader needs to like money but would rather put country before it.

So as I was saying wizards and unicorns.

This is no 'random' organisation - it is one that has been directing the affairs of your nation for decades - as you probably well know!

The Commission was funded by a $340,000 grant from the Carnegie Corporation – at a time when $5,000 was an excellent annual salary for a college professor. The Commission on the Social Studies is remembered today for its role in launching what has come to be known as progressive education. The self-admitted goal of progressive educators was – and is – to de-emphasize academic excellence in favor of awareness of social and political issues.

That’s the first half. The second half is that those issues must be presented so as to promote three concepts: (1) National sovereignty is the cause of war and must be replaced by world government;
(2) Personal property should be eliminated because it leads to selfishness, and
(3) people will not assist or cooperate with each other in freedom so they must be forced to do so by the state.

Since those are key features of collectivism, the unspoken lesson that students learn is that collectivism is good and is the wave of the future. One of the better known members of the Commission on the Social Studies was George Counts, Professor of Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. After the Bolshevik Revolution, Counts travelled to the Soviet Union to witness Communism first hand and returned with the conviction that the Soviet model was the ideal social system. After the war, when Stalin’s brutality against his own people became widely known and when Russia resumed an aggressive stance against Western nations, Counts became a critic of the Soviet regime. His objection, however, was with Stalin’s actions and policies, not his adherence to collectivism, which Counts continued to advocate.

His 1932 book, Dare the School Build a New Social Order,1 not only expressed his personal views, it was a popularized version of what the Commission hoped to instill into the educational system. He wrote: If property rights are to be diffused in industrial society, natural resources and all important forms of capital will have to be collectively owned. … This clearly means that, if democracy is to survive in the United States, it must abandon its individualistic affiliations in the sphere of economics. … Within these limits, as I see

After reading through most of this thread, i've come to the conclusion that a good hand full of people here have little or no knowledge of politics.

This stuff is verging on disinfo and is quite ill-educated, non-contributory and serves no purpose but to reinforce xenophobia and misguided playground politics.

Seriously... Why is it every time i read a thread written by an American about socialism, i cringe and find myself wanting to hang my head in disgust.

Seriously people, instead of believing stupid media or half-arsed articles, why don't you actually pick up a few books or enroll on a politics course at college or university and do some REAL research instead of churning out half-baked, diluted, nonsense.

Again, look at the DATE!!! In no way, shape, or form does your post prove that the US is turning into a communist country. There's no indication of it, no facts that would support such a claim. The existence of a communist oriented organization isn't proof the government's suddenly full of lol-Marxists.

You're buying into Beck's nonsense like a blind sheep.

If you can't see that in reality corporations are running the show, you're too brainwashed to grasp reality anymore.

I can list several instances of every number listed above happening in American society being spear-headed with a thrust of Cultural Marxism disguised as Political Correctness.

right wing/left wing is a complete load of crap and exactly how TPTB are brainwashing, not "liberalism". i am an independent, the way things should be, but they have succeeded and idiots vote solely on party not on issues, and this thread seems to be nothing more than a liberal smear campaign using a communist document from years ago.

Yup, denying it all day long...I studied real estate at one of the top universities, and only one professor ever made a political statement at all during class. And guess what, it was not a leftists statement

And even if there's a bias, it should make you at least think about why the most educated people in the country are leaning in the exact oposite direction than you

I'm not suggesting anything. You're the one who's making outlandish claims.

Incidentally, a lot of lecturers tend not to bring personal politics into their studies.

Well said sir.

The ignorance in this thread is overwhelming.

Not only are people confusing Capitalist Oligarchy with Socialism, people are now getting offended that people dare to better their education at universities.

We are now in the year 1954, and we hear Mr. Gaither say to Mr. Dodd, “Would you be interested in knowing what we do here at the Ford Foundation?”

And Mr. Dodd says, “Yes! That’s exactly why I’m here. I would be very interested, sir.” Then, without any prodding at all, Gaither says, “Mr. Dodd, we operate in response to directives, the substance of which is that we shall use our grant making power to alter life in the United States so that it can be comfortably merged with the Soviet Union.”

Dodd almost falls off of his chair when he hears that. Then he says to Gaither, “Well, sir, you can do anything you please with your grant making powers, but don’t you think you have an obligation to make a disclosure to the American people? You enjoy tax exemption, which means you are indirectly subsidized by taxpayers, so, why don’t you tell the Congress and the American people what you just told me?” And Gaither replies, “We would never dream of doing such a thing.”
www.freedomforceinternational.org...

He then goes on to descibe how they recruited a pool of twenty historians to re-write history books in favour of collectivism.

And this is just a small part of their operations - they were working hand in glove with the KGB who had thier own extensive network of influence at Western Universities.

And lest you think Communism is old hat - it is the KGB that runs Russia today, and their goals have not changed in the least.
