Calif school eyes accounts of sex by 2nd graders

news.yahoo.com

OAKLAND, Calif. – A second-grade teacher in Northern California was placed on leave while a school and police investigate accounts by students that classmates engaged in oral sex and stripped off some of their clothes during class, officials said Friday.

The investigation was under way at Markham Elementary School in Oakland, where the principal notified parents of the situation in a letter Thursday.

"We believe if the reports are true, there was a serious lapse of judgment

This is outrageous! And Second grade children??? Performing oral sex in the classroom?
If this has been posted, I am sorry... I did a search and didn't see it.

District officials emphasized the students were not accused of any wrongdoing.

"It's an incident of kids expressing their natural curiosity that went too far because an adult didn't step in," Flint said.

The kids were "expressing their curiousity?"

In this time of reality TV, no monitoring... I have a hard time wrapping my mind around the innocent explanation given for this in the article.
Thoughts??

The teacher just didn't see what was going on?! 1 or 2 adults with 15-20 kids in a classroom and he didn't see kids halfway undressed?! Performing sexual acts?!?!

If that was my kid, I'd be arrested already hunting down that teacher!!!

Unbelieveable!!

What the heckwere they thinking to say that?!

Just expressing curiousity....it almost sounds excusable!!

I agree, kids watch whatever they want on tv, no monitoring, plus what some kids see at home, and no objections from this teacher...I feel so bad for these kids, they were really let down...

If thats true, thats just ridiculous. I am not, at this moment, convinced that this is true. Even though the article does state, "the investigation, to date, suggests that the reports have merit." I still wouldn't be ready to convict the teacher of anything. There is always the possibility that a few of the kids, did not like this teacher, so one of the kids reports it, then others collaborate his story. Just a possibility.

But either way, even IF it is just a made up story by the kids, kids just shouldnt know this. Its its been a lil while since i was in 2nd grade, but i probably didnt even know what sex was. I definitely didnt know what oral sex was.
Small town compared to a big city like Oakland makes somewhat of a difference of course, but either way, if this is true, or even IF it is something made up, you have to think where they get these ideas from. Television (the ridiculous shows on that TV station that was originally about music), the easily accessible porn on the internet.

its sad really.

With easy access to porn on the internet, sex related reality shows and sex in movies, you have to wonder if kids are imitating what they are seeing. It just takes one poorly monitored child to "show" his/her friends what dirty photos or videos they found. This doesn't excuse the lack of supervision on behalf of the teacher in charge, and
I agree that the comments made by the administration was outrageous!!!

I can remember back in fourth grade one of my friends smuggled a playboy book out of his house. That was the first time I was ever exposed to anything sexual in nature. Times have changed for the worst. Today's kids are being bombarded with sexual explicit photos and videos as compared to kids who grew up in the 60's, 70's and 80's. I just saw on TV the other day of a teenager sexuality reality show!

I feel the producers of these videos and a lack of security for internet porn sites and pictures are causing children to imitate what they see. This country is in big trouble if we don't clamp down on easy access to porn. Children are becoming morally corrupt at an early age.
