If a man talks 25 mins in a serious manner on an interview that he knows would spread like wildfire & then doesn't say "I'm just joking" at the end of
the interview, then I would be a skeptic on him later saying "I was just joking". His choice of actions is not reasonable to an intelligent man like
himself. It seems more likely that a PR agent got to him and informed him to change his mind about making his opinion known. This is the only
explanation for why he did not claim it's a joke immediately after the interview--an interview which he was aware would spread around the world if he
were to mention anything about 2012 (or, as I said above, he had a mental relapse & decided to suicide his trustworthiness or just hurt his
image--which I don't think is the case).
It would not be the first time a star/celebrity made a comment just to retract it later due to their PR agent or informants (from what you quoted, it
seems Lucas did not even make a direct comment. He had an agent talk for him....).
Like I said in earlier post, I personally don't mind what his opinion on 2012 is anyway. I rather listen to astronomers.
