I read into this story entirely different.

The way I see it, the first two hit/run drivers were aware thy had hit the first person, but also knew what would happen if they stopped to help.

There was no way they were going to stop on Crenshaw.

The person who did stop, did not know what the first two drivers knew, which was to not stop if you value your well being.

The article said the police were thinking about whether or not to press charges against the second hit and run driver??
WTF is there to think about? That alone is bizarre.

I'd bet a whole dollar that when the cops talked to the second driver, his words were similar to:

"If you think I'm stopping in that area, after hitting someone, you're crazy.
Look what happened to the person who did stop."

It would surprise me if it was someplace other than LA. Just goes to show you what the entitlement mentality will do when it is allowed to breed through generations. The best thing California could do is to shoot every gang member in the head. It is either them or us. They are not here to help anyone. They are only here to make victims of the rest of us.

This is th furthest thing from a sense of entitlement.... Those who have a true sense of entitlement don't have to steal... Its given to them because they are "entitled"

Those who have a real sense of scarcity are the ones who steal... Not because they feel entitled, but because they hate those who have what they don't. Also, these actions indicate that as they were growing up, their environment tought them that people are not something to love, but to get over on before they get over on you.

I would say you probably have a 50% chance of being right. I'm betting it was either a banger/criminal or illegal that didn't want to stop for fear of going to jail or someone that didn't want to get the #$% beat out of them, one of the two.

This is nothing honestly.

Look at how people drive in India or China.

It's a million times worse over there.

They don't even care about accidents there. They don't stop and share insurance.

Wrecks are extremely common in those places.

Most intersections don't even have stop signs or lights...

Before you shoot a single gangbanger you better go to the source and stop MTV and every other channel along with half the apparel manufacturers and advertising agencies who glamorize and promote this lifestyle for profit, otherwise a new batch will show up in a couple years.

Yes, of course. So lets go backwards in civilization, just because other places don't have streetlights or signs. Let's just mow people down and keep going, 'cause it happens in other countries. No reason to hold ourselves to any higher standards of humanity, let's just get rid of all the streetlights and signs and have total anarchy on the road. We could be worse than those other countries, 'cause it happens there all the time, so this makes it A OK!

Nah that's not such a good idea.

It was funny though.

We've heard of "failed states" in Africa. Is LA a "failed city"? It sure looks like it to me.

It obviously is not working in terms of providing safety and security for its citizens. Should they not at least be trying something different? If they keep on going down this road they will have no option but to abandon it, scrap it.

Just one more place to add to my list of "no go" destinations because they are too dangerous. That list is starting to get really long.

Yes, LA is just one of many failed cities in a rapidly failing nation. Take a look at the center of our depression a city formely known as Detroit, it's a third world city. What do you suggest we do differently at this point? It seems of late, when we try to stand up for our own country, we're met with opposition from not only our own gov and our own people but also other countries, labeling us as gun toting, racist, xenophobic rednecks with no compassion for other races among other things. US citizens are constantly condemmened for being concerned about our own country's well being and the direction it's headed, I don't get it? I can't even imagine what LA will be like when it gets to the point cities like Detroit and others have reached. So...what should we do?

I am no genius with a cure for anything, but I do believe there are some principles that seem to work. People are basically the same everywhere, wanting a roof over their head and food on the table. Why are some countries managing to accomodate these things while other's are not? I don't think there is any simple answer, but where it works you find that their is some sense of community responsibility and working together for everyone's well being.

Americans have one strike against them from the start with the rugged individualism thing. That might work for explorers and adventurers, but falls apart in big cities divided along lines of ethnicity, religion and income disparity. If you are poor shame on you -- it's your own fault so suffer.

Socialism is considered a dirty word. To Northern European countries it is just part of the balance that helps moderate the extremes of health and sickness, wealth and poverty. No one has all the answers, but some seem to be a bit closer to it than LA and Detroit, that is for sure.

Even within the worst places there are people doing good things. You can't just keep throwing money at policing and control, you also have to support those doing grass roots things to make things better.

I visited some family in a small town in Nebraska for the first time a few years ago. I was a little freaked out at first because EVERYONE waved at me when we drove or walked by. Strangers passing in vehicles or on the sidwalk.

After a day, I was doing it too. I went from feeling wierd and akward to welcome and friendly. It was amazing. When I came home, I tried doing it here. I got some strange loooks (okay, a lot), but I was also surprised at how many people waved back. I stll wave more than I used to, because it made me aware just how closed off from each other we are.

Until we realize that we are all in this together, there is no hope for us.

I think that there are probably a lot of places in the states where the system works -- or used to. Was New York not once nearly as bad as parts of LA today? Didn't they take a stand and get tough on crime with a great deal of success? I'm pretty sure they did. I've seen very interesting programs on community gardens and parks in New York as well. There is a lot that can be done. It just takes the will on the part of the people.

Drugs need to be treated as a mental/physical health issue and not a crime. Evidence shows this works. Real crime, gangs and gun violence need to be dealt with ruthlessly; so that people can feel safe working with neighbours of every race, creed and colour instead of against them.

So was there no update to this? It's alarming how many of these stories have no actual resolution and sometimes the official response is usually something akin (in this case, literally) to "I'm just scratching my head over this". There's been a lot of that in the news lately and, when you go back to check on it later, there is nothing new; just the original article. It's as if "I don't know" is now an acceptable answer in journalism. The missiles, the sky rings, the kill-offs, etc. None of them were covered to an extent of resolution... they were just left dangling.

On a side-note: The Zombie Survival Guide (yes, yes, I know it's fiction) has an appendix in the back on how to track early signs of a zombie break out and one scenario to look for was (paraphrasing here) "Mob attacks with no arrests or witnesses on public record". Thought that was kind of funny.
