Interesting. The concept of states being able to nullify the actions of the federal government goes all the way back to one of the Founders - Thomas Jefferson. Now Idaho and perhaps other states are planning to use this concept to "nullfy" obamacare. And if they succeed with that, what's next - the IRS?

BOISE, Idaho – After leading the nation last year in passing a law to sue the federal government over the health care overhaul, Idaho's Republican-dominated Legislature now plans to use an obscure 18th century doctrine to declare President Barack Obama's signature bill null and void.

Lawmakers in six other states — Maine, Montana, Oregon, Nebraska, Texas and Wyoming — are also mulling "nullification" bills, which contend states, not the U.S. Supreme Court, are the ultimate arbiter of when Congress and the president run amok.

If the U.S. president, Congress, and the Supreme Court get it wrong, Woods said, then Jefferson had it right back in 1799 when he wrote that states, as creators of the federal government, "being sovereign and independent, have the unquestionable right to judge of its infraction."

That's one of the great things about Idaho......... and some of the newly elected reps are really constitutional too.

Idaho's been spearheading this since it passed and even if we don't get it nullified.... our leaders would probably just tell them to go to hell anyway.

I admire the Founding Fathers more and more each day. Their system of "checks and balances" affords us safety when government runs amok. As in cases such as this. This is just another example of how bad the bill was.

GA also have a bill in congress to repeal the Obamacare in the bases that is going to bankrupt the state that is considered a welfare state, the estimate to just get the Obama care started is going to cost to the states tax payer 1 billion dollars mostly to cover for the Obama public choice that he has converted Medicaid to become.

After all it is the individual states responsibility to support Medicare and Medicaid.

The health care bill lowered the qualifications to Medicaid at federal level to accommodate for those that can not be mandated into buying insurance at the expenses of tax payers.

In other words Obama care just shifted the responsibility of providing health care to the poor at the expenses of the working class, is not the federal government the one that has to provide the budget for Medicaid but the states.

At the end most welfare states will fall into bankruptcy and that is the reason the government is doing everything it can to project an economic recovery even when unemployment is still high.

Hi Marg,

Yes, and headline articles currently on Drudge talks about exactly that - states declaring bankruptcy, led by California.

Many people doesn't understand or never understood the monetary burden that Obama care will place on already burdened states.

The so call model for the HCR was Massachusetts, but what many didn't know about Massachusetts is that while Obama was campaigning for the HCR, Massachusetts was talking about how their universal health care was bankrupting the state.

In order to keep using the State as a model for HCR, the federal government funneled money to keep the program working on that State.

Like I say and the article link your provide say, is not going to be long when States will fall bankruptcy and the Federal government will have to bailout because Obama care and is just the beginning.

What is happening in Massachusetts is the model to what is to come for the rest of States.

Massachusetts Miracle or Massachusetts Miserable: What the Failure of the "Massachusetts Model" Tells Us about Health Care Reform

Higher taxes, higher premiums, budget deficits and still people that goes uninsured.

Wait when States all over the US starts to call for Federal bailouts in order to get Obama care working.

Massachusetts Health Insurance Plan Gets Its Own Federal Bailout

As you can see Massachusetts the model for the HCR already got one.
