I assume it's for a "fail-safe" in case of an error in spelling or punctuation. The Name of G_d demands great reverence and appropriateness; some have
said that to even ascribe a name to G_d is blasphemous. Perhaps it's "G_d's Ways" being interpreted and assigned a name?
On Wikipedia, it states under "In ancient Judaism," that "Josephus, who as a priest knew the pronunciation of the name, declares that religion forbids
him to divulge it."
And the site states also that: "the name of the God of the Jews was one of the great names, in magic, heathen as well as Jewish, and miraculous
efficacy was attributed to the mere utterance of it."
And "in the last generations before the fall of Jerusalem, however, it was pronounced in a low tone so that the sounds were lost in the chant of the
priests."
