I am so tired of hearing people protest about gun ownership in America.

(I in no way have any intent to circumvent censors, I feel strongly that my title is appropriate for this thread and not in poor taste.)

That's pretty important.
The people who wrote the laws enacting our basic rights and freedoms were absolutely brilliant individuals. These people began a whole new era of humanity.
These people knew what was important for a free, civilized society to live relatively at peace with the rights afforded to them.
These people were acutely aware that history ALWAYS repeats itself and that it is usually due to man's greed and lust for power over other men.

Now, what we must be acutely aware of is the fact that there are people who want to hurt other people.
These people will hurt other people by whatever means they have access to.
Knives, cars, rope, frozen chickens, whatever.....they are going to hurt someone.

However, in regard to gun deaths, the things you should be asking yourself are,
"Why do all these deaths seem so sensationalized?"
"Why do these shooters seem so deranged?"
"Why do they seem so mindless and random?"
"Why do most of them seem illogical and bizarre?"

I do live in CA for at least half the year each year. Most of the "gun owners" I would complain about are probably not in legal possession of a firearm.

The rest of the year I live in a country where it is illegal to own anything other than a shotgun, and I hear it is tough to get a permit for that. I do feel quite safe there, despite not being allowed to possess a firearm. However, in CA, I would not feel so secure if I did not have access to a firearm. There are far too many criminals in CA who do not care if it is legal or illegal to have a firearm.

I would give your post 1,000 stars and flags, but I can only give you one of each. I agree 100%! If you don't live in the US then your opinions about guns are moot, so save them. We have guns in the US and it's not going to change anytime in the near future. If you do live here and you don't like guns you have the freedom to move out of the country anytime nobody is stopping you.

In 2009, there were 10,224 homicides involving guns (FBI uniform crime reports).

"Homicide" includes self-defense shootings.

Anti-gun advocates aren't aware of or simply don't bring light to that fact.

Almost half of gun deaths are suicides. These people would have found a way to kill themselves.

The population of America is 311 million, give or take a few.

That means 0.0032875% of the American population’s death were the result of a firearm.

If we take half of those as suicides, then that leaves 0.0016437%.

That amount would be even further reduced by the number of “homicides” that were actually in self-defense.

It is evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States.

I myself cannot own a firearm. This is one of my most shameful(regretful) actions of not giving a damn when I was younger. Yes I am a felon(non violent) and therefor forever screwed up my abilities of ever owning a gun. I tell everybody even if you do not want a gun you need to get your FOID card. Do this to express the right that if you wanted to get a gun you have the constitutional right to do so. The more people that have their FOID card, the more numbers of votable citizens that politicians have to take into consideration before they introduce new legislation for gun control. Who wants to propose a bill that will surely get them elected out of office. It is a constitutonal right that I regretfully cannot express.

This was the best post I have read regarding gun control. I mean that in the sense it was VERY well put together and organized. Kudos to you for this. I thank you also for posting this in that other thread... this post should help others to open their eyes to what we (American gun owners) are trying to say.

Then you know the round capacity for magazines, the gun registration, and the other restrictions on guns.

I would personally like less restrictions.

It is not like illegal guns aren't around and illegal parts for the guns also.

Restrictions on weapons don't hinder anything, just the legality of said weapons and the purchasing of them.

I would feel more comfortable with a higher round capacity. That is my complaint.

You can petition a court to get that right reinstated; it's not a forever thing if you can show that you've been on the straight and narrow long enough.

My grandmother has had her FOID card since the fities. She went in to renew it last year and they pulled up an old case from the fifties she was involved in. It was a nonviolent charge which I am not that informed of. I do know they revoked or refused to give her a new card for this. This charge is over 50 something years old. My grandmother is almost 80 now. I can get more information on the matter. I find it really disturbing.

It's my opinion that guns are a necessary evil. I don't care for them simply due to the fact that a gun can make someone with no previous training in any kind of discipline (i.e. martial arts) able to kill someone else with something as simple as the pull of a trigger.

Why do I think they are necessary? Simply because they exist. So long as the government has guns then the people should always be armed as well. Our founding fathers realized that governments are prone to corruption and they saw the best way to keep this in check was to acknowledge the human right for people to procure a means to defend themselves.

If all countries in the world wanted to suddenly destroy all their firearms then great, get rid of all of them. That won't happen though, outside of some sort of divine intervention, therefore people should be allowed to have their guns.

Outlawing guns wouldn't eliminate all our problems anyhow. I also don't see why people from other countries get so worked up over the fact we have our guns.

Yeah, I see you too are from the Illinois, a socialists disneyland.

Here in a med size town in Southern Il theyre taking our DL and FOID to buy ammo. Nice huh? No mention of a database for ammo really, but they are logging it in something that looks like a big rectangular receipt book. We hadnt had the gun shop do that before here when buying ammo.. started last yr. If we buy it at a farm and home store one town over they do not log it.. weird.
