Not true. Radiation can be easily shielded so that it is negligible. Problems arise only when the containment is damaged and radioactive particles escape out, and that almost never happen.

I would like to see your source about cancer clustering around nuclear plants, because that is false, too. You get much more radiation from coal burning plants than from nuclear.
