Liberalism and conservatism are two sides of the same coin. They are inextricable reactions to a problem, or situation. Indeed, there would be no
need for conservatism if there were not liberalism, and no need for liberalism if there were not conservatism.
The problem is not liberalism, it is the far left who have in their own conservative dogma - they cling rather stubbornly to Marxist ideology -
hijacked liberalism. The Founding Fathers of the United States of America were, for all intents and purposes, liberals. It was King George and his
loyalists who were the conservatives of that day. Conservatives by nature conserve. If an American conservative today is not conserving the
Constitution for the United States of America, then that conservative is seeking to conserve something else, and the problem with this is that, taking
the "neo-con" for example, they tend to take a remarkably liberal view of the Constitution.
In my humble opinion, it is folly to fall prey to the liberal/conservative paradigm of division. Ironically, there are many who argue that falling
prey to the right/left paradigm of division is folly, and will even go as far as to argue that there is no left/right paradigm, and it is an invention
by those mysterious and so called "TPTB". There is no doubt a left, and no doubt a right, and then there is a center. Liberals can easily adopt a
rightish ideology, and conservatives can easily adopt a leftish ideology, as should be evident by many union members who are steadfast in their
conservatism of that ideology.
Freedom does not care what side of the political fence one stands, only that the unalienable rights of all people are respected and honored. Petty
tyrants can be either left, or right, and indeed, they can be either liberal, or conservative. Ideology is not what guarantees freedom. Due
diligence and a healthy jealousy guarding that freedom, and a zealous defense of that freedom is what comes closest to guaranteeing it. Of course, as
long as there are petty tyrants, then there is no guarantee of freedom.
