hey sam, this isn't specific to the reply just wanted to reply to you.


By increasing focusing on the "history" (I'm not deny that slavery existed just to clarify, just that there is more to story) it not only increases or perpetuates modern racial tensions, it also takes the focus off of the modern slave trade.

Every once in awhile it will be on the news, although not often. The US plays a major role in the secret slave trade, and it is such a silent problem. These people are transported all over the world, to and from the US included. I wonder if by insisting that it was a solely racial historical issue the modern crime is able to largely undetected as people simply don't expect it.

Your thread is created to support that the first slaveholder in the Americas was Mr. Johnson, a black man. However, a search of your references in your OP shows that he was not. Sensationalization, period, as in many ATS thread titles.

Please check your facts.
