Just another hunch, maybe the destroyers are griffins? If the grays prevented their works, it would be against scripture and blasphemous. I suppose there's dark and light interdimensionals though, not all of them are saved yet. There's a superiority complex that develops in any being with enhanced abilities, technologies, etc.
