And my favourite and one I try and live my life by is this...

It has to be:

Is it not strange that the descendants of those Pilgrim Fathers who crossed the Atlantic to preserve their own freedom have always proved the most intolerant of the spiritual liberty of others?

Robert E. Lee

I've always thought that this one was apropos in terms of love and the relationship between men and women.

Once inside a woman's heart
A man must keep his head
Heaven opens up the door
Where angels fear to tread.

Bob Seger "Shame on the Moon"
