"The congresswoman continues to do well," University Medical Center in Tucson said Sunday in a statement.

Giffords has been off the ventilator and breathing on her own, through a tracheotomy tube, since a surgical procedure on Saturday. A feeding tube was inserted as part of the same operation, which took place exactly one week after a bullet went in and out of her skull.

Keeping up to date on this story, and I'm glad to see her pulling through.

Brain trauma is no small matter, and for her to come out of it even breathing on her own this fast is huge. It was not long ago that she was pronounced dead on mainstead news networks globally, and yet she is making what looks like close to a full recovery.

Keep your thoughts and prayers with this woman, she will continue to need them.

critical was what she was before, now she is serious condition which is a downgrade

I'll change the title, but that's how the article was. Got my attention as well, but I wasn't sure at first so thanks for the confirmation. I'll make a note in the OP.

Actually, a change in condition from critical to serious would be an upgrade.

From my military first responder training, when setting up a CCP (Casualty collection point) and mass casuatly room, the most critical get moved nearest the door for easy CASEVAC/MEDEVAC. To be in more stable condition would downgrade your status.

I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder.
