When the gas prices go up, so does everything else, but not as quick as the gas price. Companies will have to adjust for fuel surcharges and what
not. I drive a Truck and part of the payment apart from the load is the fuel surcharge, and I remember back in the day Diesel was cheaper than
Gasoline. They can jack up the fuel price, and people are gonna have to adjust the prices for everything because they have to get the merchandise
shipped one way or another. By the way, every truck has to pay an annual fuel tax fee, apart from other taxes, a friend once calculated roughly,
considering all the semi trucks on the road, and that's just for the big rigs, the combination vehicles, and more or less came out to a figure of
about 9 billion dollars a year, I was taken back by it, I can't say his calculations are accurate, however thinking about the number of trucks large
companies have along with independent contractors it doesnt seem far fetched.
Just took a look at this page
Truck Stats 2 million are tractor trailers, my friend said he had
just paid the fuel tax for this year and it came to about 680 dollars, the stats say that there are about 2 million tractor trailers multiply 2
million by 6 to 800 dollars, somebody is making a killing off the taxes!
Sorry I drifted slightly off topic, but it kind of coincides
Jack up the price on fuel and the price for everything will soon go up also, it's another scam, truckers alone pay a huge chunk, can anyone get an
estimate for regular 4 whelled vehicles? the reason I am focusing on taxes is because I had read somewhere a long time ago (I think it was on a Maxim
magazine) that 75% of the price at the pump is taxes alone, Municipal, county, state and federal taxes.
Edited to add this: Upon further reading down I saw this
"How much does the trucking industry pay to operate on our roads?
Estimates of 21.4 billions dollars is produced annually and paid by the trucking industry. "
