Israel army brass and Barak clashed on Iran war: report

www.reuters.com

(Reuters) - Israel's military chief objected last year to a proposal to attack Iranian nuclear sites by Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who retaliated by cutting the general's tenure, an Israeli newspaper reported Wednesday.

Lieutenant-General Gabi Ashkenazi, who retires next month, believed that "initiating a war will only bring disaster upon Israel" and won Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's "promise that his view would be heard," the Haaretz daily said.

Nice!

Man, if we had more generals like this guy, who didn't just bend over and obey governmental insanity of endless war-mongering, perhaps this world could become a saner place.

Of course as we see, he was PUNISHED for not going along with the 'leaders' bloodlust, but to me, this is the sign of a hero.

When a 'war' can be avoided, then by all means it should be, and those who COMMAND the forces should have the ability to oppose those who are pushing pencils behind desks, far away and detached from this bloodshed, all too eagerly willing to sacrifice lives that mean nothing to them, in order to push their own agendas and serve their own interests.

If our generals had of stood up like this, at the very least the idiotic debacle of the Iraq invasion could have been avoided.

This story is HUGE.

As a General he knows the cost of war in regards to the young men he has under his command and the adversaries.

Good for him.

if haarp was really effective and could achieve what many claim it could then they would of used it on iran a long time ago to halt the nuclear programme.

this general is a good man and know whats worth fighting for. he knows that iran posses no threat to the jews. iran has the biggest jewish population in the middle east after israel. he knows that ahmedinejad didnt call for the destruction of the jews. this general probably knows what crimes the illegal state of israel commit everyday but his job is to defend the israelis and not to put them into another disaster.

he retires next month, whos next?

From what I have seen most military men don't want to fight, they know what is involved. It is the ignorant politicians on an ego trip trying to throw their weight around that start a lot of the conflict. They are the ones that should be at the front of the first wave if they believe in it that much, not bunkered down out of harms way.

If this General is retiring next month, then maybe it means they are going to try a sneak attack on Iran next month...
Makes you wonder the exact day he will be retiring on.
But I mean really, it should be obvious that an attack on Iran is pretty serious business, I don't see why they need this Ashkenazi (sp?) dude to tell them this.
