U.S. raises China military, trade worry before Hu visit

www.reuters.com

Gates, in Japan after a visit to China this week, said in a speech advances by China's military in cyber and anti-satellite warfare technology could challenge the ability of U.S. forces to operate in the Pacific.

Gates, while saying he did not see China as an "inevitable strategic adversary," stressed the importance of U.S. military ties with Japan, where about 49,000 U.S. military personnel are stationed.

The U.S. getting the proverbial 'stiff arm' is becoming more and more common, and China is really starting to act like the big player it is becoming more each day.

I don't see this working out well for Uncle Sam. We're hemorrhaging dollar value faster than we can imagine (by design of the Fed, of course) and China seems to be on a military technological boom. Not to mention an all around buildup, it's almost embarassing to hear that we are not "inevitable adversaries".

S&F! Nice find.

This coming in the light of other China related cyber scares (probably more, but 3 is enough I think):

April 30, 2001 - bbc.co.uk - US under Chinese hack attack
April 8, 2009 - reuters.com - Has power grid been hacked? U.S. won't say
November 11, 2009 - washingtonpost.com - China proves to be an aggressive foe in cyberspace

It seems America is wising up to China's threat; seems a bit like pissing in the wind though when you think about it. They've repeatedly probed, successfully hacked, and compromised most of our most major systems. Power grids, secure networks/devices, etc. They've shown us the electronic savvy they have over us.

This just personifies the fears and threats that loom over our future...

I am English, not 'British'. My opinion is that the egocentric USA 'government' should get its military out of every country in the world. Some ppl decry the British Empire - the largest empire the world has ever seen, but we they changed it to the 'common-wealth' we have very few bases overseas now.

China should really be careful.
Russia showed us that a strong arm leadership spending masses on its military and ignoring the people eventually gets themselves into trouble.

Also, Russia is landlocked by so many different countries, they aren’t just rising up against the US, they are rising up against Russia, India, Japan..

Just because you have enough of a punch to give the other guy a black eye, doesn’t mean you can knock him down and his mates too.

China now falls under MAD, and it being understand that that’s a gentleman’s understanding.

It is better for these two gaints to be friendly cooperator rether than inevitable adversaries, neither side gains is the only result for inevitable adversaries...
