This MUST stop!

With the way the world is at this time, throwing back perfectly good fish, dead, due to some regulations is a cruelty all on its own.
So many people starving around the world, yet one body decides that we must have a fishing quota.

If you've caught too much you MUST throw it back or break the law..

I think one of the problems was that they catch a LOT of different fish in the net and people in general will only eat very certain types of fish, so If they catch lots of Mackerel for example they have to throw them back because no one will buy them and it all adds up to the weight of their fishing quota.

It seems like an insane system for sure.

Rock is my favourite! I always have it on the rare occasions I visit the Chip Shop. Also if you've ever been to Portugal they have as many different recipes for Sardines as there are days in the year and most are delicious

You might be interested to know how much calamari might be overtaking fish in the chippy pretty soon..

The Humboldt squid is racing around the ocean as one of the top predators.. they are highly intelligent and are spreading thier hunting range.

This could very well be partly due to the way we fish. Throwing dead fish back does not help stocks replenish.
Fishing in great nets does not replensih stocks either..

Well My household signed up to fishfight.net last night. Something needs to be done as the discard is sickening. That is good food we are throwing out as well as keeping the price of fish artificially high.

Where do you people live?! I live in England, the home of the chippy, and all I can get is cod or haddock (occasionally plaice). I would love to try some of these other fish in crispy batter.

Throwing back that amount of dead fish disgusts me, not only is it wasteful from a food perspective, it is also cruel. Caught and killed in vain. I love eating meat and fish but to kill and dump it back in the sea is near on murderous. My opinion is hunting for food - fine, hunting for sport - senseless, hunting for the EU, more political BS.
