Police in the Irish Republic say they have arrested five suspected IRA dissidents and seized a weapons-making factory at a remote farm.

Officers found metal tubes and other parts for making vehicle-mounted heavy mortars and pipe bombs.

Sky News Link
Thank god these weapons were found before being used to kill more innocent people, for about thirty years from 1969 the IRA conducted an armed paramilitary campaign in Northern Ireland and England, aimed at ending British rule in Northern Ireland in order to create a united Ireland, this included bombings in england killing civilians,3600 people died during Northern Irelands troubles, half of them killed by the IRA!

well yes you can't have a revolution with out killing people in our modern time we have forgot this.. its sad but in order to gain victory you must sacrifice and that sacrifice will be near and dear.. it will be our children our son's and daughters. our mothers and father Victory comes at a price. The question is? to the IRA is the Price worth it? the Question to the Brits is? is it worth it?

Er.. Noone is fighting for freedom. They are already free.. Do you even know what your talking about?
Half the population want a unified Ireland and the other half want it to remain part of the uk.
So what do you do? if it were handed back, what about the protetstant side, they would be unable to live there anymore, so would have to leave there homes and the country they were born.. Half a million people displaced!

There are two sides to every story, most people don't even know what they are talking about when this subject arises..

And before the Irish hammer me here for that comment, I know the history of the conflict, my parents are southern Irish and I'm roman catholic, I agree some awful things happened throughout Irish history, but the situation now, it's not that easy to just hand it back to the south..

I would say yes it is for freedom.. I know the history I know my own country's history as well.. 1/3 wanted freedom from the brits 1/3 didn't 1/3 could care less..

while I never said there was an easy solution.. I just said that in their quest for freedom they didn't kill too many people..

and than in a later post talked about the cost. if it was worth it.. so please don't shoot off the mouth.. at me

british soldiers were deployed onto the streets in the north in the 60s to protect the catholic minority from protestants rioting there homes and discriminateing against catholic republicans. soon the british soldiers also turned on the catholics.basicly it goes back hundreds of years of irish opression from the brits. the fact is that if the catholics in the north were treated equaly from the time of the british soldiers being deployed there would not of been 30 years of anger and bloodshed and no one would of cared less weather they were part of the u.k or ireland. basicly the brits started it just like they started it in every othr nation they invaded but us tough irish gave um a hell of a fight . erin go bra (ireland forever)

Nothing personal mate.. But everyone has an opinion on this subject but most don't know a thing about it..

I have lived through the Ira bombing London, innocent lives lost, woman and children.. In shopping centres and public places.. Six of my friends were nearly killed in an explosion in ealing, London, on a Friday night in a busy area full of bars and clubs.
They are not freedom fighters but terrorists, no different to bin laden or any of the others..

Which country are you from? I'm assuming America?

Wether you are or not doesn't matter, America were big supporters of the Ira terrorists, even corperations like mcdonalds donate money to the cause..
And just so you know, London was bombed regularly by these people, but it's funny now, once America suffered some terrorism on home soil, it was a different story.. Now America fights terrorism, I saw in another of your posts you fought in Iraq, so apparently you fight terrorism too... But.. That's wrong because The way you put it, These people are only fighting for there freedoms..

yeah I'm from the U.S but I think you are misunderstanding me.. tho I'm not really for any one my only insight was that I hope whom ever is doing the fighting doesn't kill to many innocent people.. and I'm splitting hairs here but the u.s is a bunch of morons.. in the first place.. they started that terrorist back in the day and didn't have the foresite to see it come back and bite them in the ass.. I know what you mean when you say it is wrong. I think they need to find a peaceful middle ground.. I hope that does make since and I'm sory for your loss. but the bottom line is.. as history shows one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter.

There is no doubt the British did awful things to the Irish throughout thousands of years of history, which they also did to native Americans, Australians, new zealanders etc..

That's not the point, the point is these terrorists killed innocent people in the process, people just out shopping with children.. People who have never even been to Ireland..
That is just wrong..

It's disappointing how a handful of members who have commented on this thread thus far are content at condoning British Imperialism. It matter's not. You'll understand it when your at the receiving end of the ever imminent global imperialism presently being ushered in.

The current "factions" and iterations of the IRA do not represent Ireland's true dissidence against the British. Narcotics and illogical violence have nothing to do with freedom for the Irish citizenry but it does make it easier to demonize those opposed to British rule. I largely suspect that the said factions are controlled opposition, as do many others.

It's sad how Europe has conquested our emerald isle without invasion or occupation. Bureaucratic and obfuscated traps such as the Lisbon treaty has whored our nation to the globalists and seeing as how most "pimps" own their "whores" our sovereignty is truly dead. The IMF simply opened the wound.

If half the people were killed by the IRA, wouldn't the other half be killed by the opposition? From what I hear seems the IRA is a freedom fighting organization, not terrorist, correct? The idea is they want the British out of Ireland, which has been a theme for hundreds of years.

I hardly see that as a good point. since the Ira and the Brits have been fighting since long before the word terrorism or terrorist were even coined.. no matter what any one does they will continue to fight.. and just like the middle east.. long after people die and there are only single cell creatures the ones in there will still be fighting.

Terrorist,Its just a word,it doesn't mean they didn't exist before it was invented, the word mingeweasel was created 30 seconds ago, yet you have been one all your life.

and just like the middle east..

I have gathered you're pro provisional I.R.A.(Pro Terrorist) from the fact you slated my last post, so tell me are you pro al-qaeda aswell, did you aplaude when 3000 of your countrymen were murdered by terrorists?

we can go back and forth with this.. so I take it from you slant that your for the British government. so you stand by while they did worse than what the I.R.A did? bloody sunday? and as for the word slant you put on.. so your logic states.. that just because there wasn't a word at the time you can retro it to them? wow.. in that case every loosing side to a fight for freedom or insert word for what they wanted here.. they lost so they were terrorists? If I also remember my history the United states when they broke from England were labeled as such.

what happens when the I.R.A wins? it will happen sooner or later.. that the thing with it.. just like in Iraq they don't have to win in a up front war they just have to out last. and the way the EU is falling fast. all they have to do is wait.

ONE mans terrorist is another mans Freedom Fighter lol..
