You're right. If they were Christians, they would adapt a Judeo-Christian mindset, which would direct them to bury their dead- benefit: avoid cholera, and bury their poop- benefits: numerous. Both would contribute to cutting down the rat population. Benefit: less disease and possibly safe drinking/bathing water.

I'm not ashamed of my western roots, and I don't make any apologies for it. It's not perfect, but originally it was based on Judeo-Christian values. Says a lot.

Question: If the western culture is so horrible, then why are Indians begging to work and live there?
