This is new official evidence of the earth changes and cracking up,this is the latest earthquakes in the last 8 -30 days globally time to wake you up folks

The earth is always moving and everyone knows this. But I do believe that recent events have shown there has been an increase in activity. I don't think the average person will believe anything has changed until something major happens.

The real cause of Global warming has yet to be decided, but it is becomming increasingly aparent that the puny efforts of mankind have little to do with it.
The causes may be more than terrestrial, as there are detectable signs of planetary warming on the other solar neighbours.
The people who blame mankind for this phenomina have i believe looked into too sm,all an arena to find viable answers.
Further it remains to be seen what effects that a changing magnetic field will bring to our planet, as our magnetic protection from the suns radiation seems to be changing possibly shifting poles.....
The whole picture is alarming no doubt, but its highy egotistical to think it is man who has wreaked all the havoc....and highly unlikely that a carbon tax will cure or abate anything.

Magma moves, faults slip, and mountains rise and fall, glaciers move around, mining happens, and equipment and man made things moving ground, and river's carve canyons, and caves are formed every day. I have seen no more increase in activity then has been going on for thousands of years. They are more visible cause of tech advances to see such things. That is my opinion and I do not mean to butcher you up like a freaking idiot at all. But until a serious 9.0 happens seven days a week nothing is different here then usual.

I can't help but feel that some, or most of this isn't because of water use. Imagine a large body of H2O below your house. What happens when it starts to get used? Those pockets of water are gone, and the surface sinks. In other words "cracking up."

Then there is the oceans. What does salt do to to ice? It lowers its melting point/melts it. So, what happens when rain water goes to areas that weren't meant to have it/not the ocean? It causes increased salt in the oceans, and increased melting.

I love all the ideas out there about global warming, but I feel water use is the culprit for a lot of problems. It is easy to blame one thing like CO2 , but it is never that simple.

Plus with a 75 year life span, we are a bit short-sighted too.

Oh I do agree that we have muddied up this place like a red headed step child in a pond. But the earth is a strange place, it can take a beating and give it back. It has proved this in Pompei for instance, and other places. The minute we think we can control this place, it kicks us in the royal buttocks and reminds us who the real boss is.

and sorry, but you misread "Few images can capture the world's climate fears like a 100-square-mile chunk of ice breaking off Greenland's vast ice sheet, a reservoir of freshwater that if it collapsed would raise global sea levels by a devastating 20 feet."

that means if all the ice in greenland...not the one big chunk of ice. AND, in 1962 an ice chunk calved off and it was 250 sq miles, so IMO....not a really big deal!!! www.wwfblogs.org...

be good

I`m not afraid i just wish people to be at peace knowing things that they will have missed ,imagine most just walk about with no incline of what a crystal aura around the moon at night is,well its just what it is,but if that stays like that for quite a while it reflects the suns radiance cooling us,but thats not occurring as there is gases overtly seeping from geological cracks, yes I know yellowstone park does it all the time but not usually in other places except volcanoes, swamp gas LOL...and methane pockets.

What is odd about that? We have over 3000 earthquakes in this country, per year, alone!

Seems human-induced to me, related to mining.

Originally posted by gringoboyHuge iceberg-courtesy of kalenga which will raise sea level by 20 feet www.msnbc.msn.com...

Oh crikey, where do I begin? The iceberg will not raise seal level by twenty feet. If the whole of the Greenland Ice Sheet melted, then sea level would rise by twenty feet:

Greenland's vast ice sheet, a reservoir of freshwater that if it collapsed would raise global sea levels by a devastating 20 feet.

From the very article you linked to.

So Red Orbit leans towards Human-induced climate change as a potential cause, while the BBC leans towards La Nina. Interesting to note that this isn't an event that just happened overnight, but has been ongoing since the 1970's, but nice way to fearmonger. Points for that.

Nope, not official enough for me. no alarm bells are ringing, no Natural Hazards specialists are getting worried about the Earth cracking up, no seismologists are more excited than they usually are about earthquakes.

The Earth always moves. so in that respect your title is sort of correct.

How is ANY of this news to anyone? Has this entire site gone mad? Of course the crust is moving, there's this little thing called PLATE TECTONICS.

Hi gringoboy, Looking at the world diagram of the earthquake activity in the past 8-30 days, it is weird how they all take place on the exact lines of the tectonic plates? Is this normal for eqrthquakes, anyone know???

I do. We had a 7.1 here which is very similar in magnitude to the Haiti quake. The difference is that our infrastructure was somewhat able to cope with that due to building standards etc. The poor Haitians had no such building standards as was evidenced by the destruction wrought.

I am starting to think that the Insane Asylum has opened its gates and let anybody out who DOESN'T display critical thinking. Naturally, it seems, they gravitate here.

Kalenga: Earthquakes generally happen along fault lines. The major fault lines could be, to the ley person, called Plate Boundaries. We live on an active Earth that is constantly moving and this can be, and is, measured accurately in many areas (of high potential rupture, given historicity, or near Urban areas, especially in the developed world). I don't see anything odd in the earthquakes occurring along Plate boundaries. It helps 'cement' (if you will, and if you had doubt) the Theory of Plate Tectonics.

Really? Another sign? A commonplac e occurrence that is being clutched at as a sign of the Earth cracking up? Dessication cracks, fractures, faults etc are ubiquitous. These are not new occurrences, just new observations (perhaps) of common phenomena.
