I'm American but my mom is British. We don't hate British people but Fox News has a large portion of population convinced that any amount of socialism is evil. However, I've rarely if ever heard anyone say anything bad about Britain in connection to this argument. On the contrary, Britain is a good counter example when the right wingers go nuts about hating the evil communists lurking among us. Britain is our closest ally and friend. It's unfortunate that it couldn't have been a better friend and told us to stick it when we wanted to invade Iraq without provocation.

I'm Americanized and I don't know the British or met any Briton all that well to pass judgment. But I don't particularly like British accent --- it sounds like they are chewing cuds --- and cannot understand their jokes --- except for Mr. Humphries, he's funny. Other than that: Cheers!

I'm not hot and bothered.I merely asked a string of questions and expressed my hatred of the British monarchy. It is solely an indictment of them, not the British people.I am a huge fan of many British musical artists, comedians, actors, writers and other cultural output that those dirtbag royals can claim no credit for.I also have a particular distaste for the obsequious sycophants who pander to and laud them.

I will bow to no man nor expect any man to bow to me.I see this as a fundamental tenet of equality and to undermine this precept, even through voluntary deference, is to threaten the equality of all humanity.

Didn't think so. Maybe you are in a location where the Americans there dislike anyone new or different.

No, we hate ourselves much more than we hate anyone else. Even the Islamo-fascists out there are pretty much off the hook when it comes to American hatred.

If hating others is the measure of self hatred, then the rest of the world's must be filled with self hatred relative to the States.
Even here in Canada Americans are mere tolerated.

So where will the love begin..

What study was it that showed something like 1/3 of the American population doesnt even know why we celebrate the fourth of July let alone that we broke away from England? I mean I can almost gurantee that those same people couldnt even locate the UK on a map.

The average American holds no grudge or hatred for England because.... well we won. Its the English that hate us for dumping their tea in the water.

I don't hate British. Many Americans do, and I believe there's tension both ways.

Americans say the same thing about Brits.
-You are all dirty.
-Yellow Teeth
-Try to re-create the "accent"
-Say bloody a lot

Then British come and say...
-You fat Americans
-Go eat McDonalds
-You're president is black
-Or even worse "haha 9/11"

I think it should stop personally. We don't need it. Even if you do get a kick out of it.

"One guy even blamed the british for his ancestors being brutalised in some war way back. This is stupid because the modern day average british person doesn't share the same views our ancestors did, regardless of what our ancestors did it has nothing to do with us in this day and age. "

Erm, yeah I totally get you on that one. I really get sick of being called a yank. Or when British people assume I have no concept of world geography for example (maybe b/c much of our education system isn't as good?).

"I don't really like the british government and disagree with allot of their agendas but its like people think the british government makes decisions and that all the british people agree and that we are all tossers!! "

Your govt sucks just as bad as ours sorry to say. Anyone with half a brain or maybe came over to the UK would know that most folks are disapproving of MPs spending sprees, lame PMs the past ten so years... letting in all kinds of immigrants then showering them with benefits and the recent school fee hikes riots. Worst thing about Britain now in my opinion though is the PC brigade! and its starting to get like it over here too.

Nah, most Americans don't hate british, unless maybe they've been rude to on vacation by a few baddies whilst overseas. I just brushed it off the one or two out of a hundred really awesome, fun and mostly stylish attractive people. I've never seen the bad teeth stereotype. I haven't a clue what "limey" even means. Mostly have just hung out with the hot young kids and boy does England have a great nightlife! and I've been in a relationship with a guy from Plymouth for 3 years, he's sooo smart, has great manners and has effortless class. Sure our people and cultures are a lot different but I think we can all get along and have a good time! especially those of us whose ancestors came over will surely have the strongest bond and love your country.

Oh yes, also, you guys have the best slang words ever! Nope don't think ya sound like a tosser.

I cannot believe you are asking this... everyone knows that you brits are the cool kids on the planet. But I'll go ahead and explain why: You british folks have the coolest accent, you're better looking (british men are so dreamy), smarter, more polite, more cultured, listen to better music (this is especially true), and you drive cuter cars. I'm an American and I'll admit we're lazy, not very smart, selfish, sometimes violent, rude, extremely materialistic, loud, obscene, and we drive on the wrong side of the road. But we have a good sense of humor, yes?

Well im British, and have been a "viewer" here for a long time, and I must say that I havent seen much in the way of british bashing comments...
The only time it has arisen is if the poster realises his opinion hold no water, gets backed into a corner and starts throwing his toys out the pram.
I do like our accent, but we dont all talk like Huge Grant.... and whenever I was in the states, all I got asked was "Are you Australian???"
I think you will also find that alot of british love the American accent too.

Are English girls hotter....? well they are more natural when it some to certain body parts, however personally, I think Mainland European/Eastern European girls beat the Brit and US women hands down.... so much so that I married one!

Although im not a fan of the Royals either, they do hold control of the Armed forces, and I much prefer that than the Forces being under direct control of the joke we call a government.

I love the US, and have even owned a couple of American cars, althought due to our fuel prices, its just not possible anymore to drive a V8 everyday.
I also love the Soul/Hip hop scene and Tornado Alley!

Personally I have nothing against Obama, and applaude the fact a Black President was elected, as i think it shows the changing attitude over there, no matter what opinion people have of him now.

Basically anyone I see British or American bashing, I realise they are a very small minority and it cant do ruin my opinion of I either race.

This is basically true, although, I have to be an exception in this case. I am English by birth and British by citizenry (is that a real word?). My first daughter was born in England my first son in Scotland and the next boy and girl in England. My ex wife lives on Ynys Mon and my second son is a trooper in the Welsh Guards (one of the best Regiments in the British Army). My two daughters speak fluent Cymreag.

As for our transatlantic cousins; who were still British when they won a war that should have never happened as King George was in fact pro American and I am sure they would have been granted self rule without bloodshed; I do not trust their Gov any more than that of the UK, but the people? Brave, hardworking and some of the most generous folk I have had the pleasure work and fight alongside.

Forgive me for jumping in after not having read the whole thread..
I am a New Zealander with an English father and a mother of Scottish descent, and from a lifetime of viewing American TV and film, it seems to me that the answer is yes, Americans do dislike the British!
The British-accented villain is a staple of American film and TV. (Even when said villain is actually played by a New Zealander such as Sam Neill..)
Of late, the British accented villain has acquired an extra layer of evil, by being a woman, and an Asian or Arab-looking one - such as the 'Lucian Alliance' commander in SGU, played by Rhona Mitra.
I've always thought that being a British actor in the USA would be a pretty thankless job. Maybe that's why so many Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans actually play the evil Brit? (My late brother and I have both had a laugh over the years, at the Americans who couldn't tell us apart from born in England people!)

Hey, personally I serious doubt two of the things you claim British people say about you.
"-You're president is black"
I have yet to meet a British person (and aside from family members, I have met heaps) who would be bothered that Obama is black. Methinks you're projecting!

I agree there Vicky, racism isn't tolerated in the UK by the majority, and as far as 9/11, I remember when it happened we were all glued to the TV in absolute shock and horror, when that second plane went in a couple of the lasses in the room burst out crying, I had to force back tears, all that we kept thinking about was how many people in the buildings and planes just died, and what were the trapped people going to do, when the towers collapsed it has to be one of the single most horrifying things I have ever seen. I'm sure Brits round the whole E/S/W/I felt the same.

To the poster who claimed thats what we would come back with in argument (haha 9/11), please get that thought out of your head!

And what exactly am I responsible for?
Details please.

I think if you clear your head of jingoistic, MSM, rubbish you will realise that recently it's been the US that has been begging the UK for support, but of course that doesn't fit in with your bigoted, arrogant and insular world viewpoint.

I neither want or need your support on aything, you are an irrelevance to me.

We are a nation built on a republic form of government. Not a monarchy. I don't believe we have anything in common. If you believe in a republic, maybe we can talk.

You are a nation built on lies and the blood of innocents, the same as the vast majority of nations... you are no better, and no worse, than anyone else

I could give a # about my heritage. (and grandma was English) I do give a # about our form of government.

Your form of government is probably even less representative than the UK's and if the truth is told offer's only marginally more choice than some more extreme forms of government.

The UK needs urgent radical electoral and parliamentary reform giving increased accountabilty and representation to the electorate.

Moves are afoot to begin that process; any criticism of the US process is almost deemed heretical, very democratic I must say!

We beat your controlling bankers ass one time (ole George) and we will do it again.

No...The French and you did, and only to be replaced by another set of controlling bankers.
A resounding victory, lol.

Will you?
Why?
And when?

Another example of the US's imperial desires or just because you think you can and are a bully.

Grow up silly little boy.

Death to the Rochchild dynasty.

The Rothschilds and their cronies aren't British and have more control of the US now than they ever have done or have had of any leading country in history.

Another examplle of the shining light that is the USA!

All of these young public school idiots who are bending over backwards to kiss your ass mean nothing to the true patriots in this nation.

Hallelujah brother.

Fortunatly I know there are plenty of 'true patriots' within the US and that you and you thoughts are not representative of your nation and it's people.

Bloody Foreigners .......

Our cultures are inextricably linked ........... and as an Irishman , I`m all right with that .

The reason why the Premier League is one of the two best leagues in the world, is because of the quality foreign players that play for the English teams. No major professional sporting league in the world is made up entirely of home-grown players.

The clubs are still English institutions ( granted, they're owned by Arabs, Russians, Indians and Americans
).

I like Ireland, but there are some Irish people who go on spluttering rants about the English, with the only coherent words being ''invaders'', ''Cromwell'', ''slaves'', ''1916'', ''Michael Collins'' etc. ( as if any of that had anything to do with the current generation of Irish and English ). These same people will then saunter into a Dublin pub at the weekend wearing a Manchester United shirt !

That is called ''hypocrisy'' ! Oh yeah, and ''glory-hunting''...
