Well yes, and I think people owe Palin an apology, actually an apology isn't good enough, now.

Well, if it truly does ruin her political aspirations, she can always sign a multimillion dollar contract with TLC, she seems to have stacked her deck pretty well. She'll be alright, can't speak for moose, but she'll survive

No, no one should have to 'put up with' a map with targets on it.
Best go talk to your buddies over at the Democratic Committee about the nearly same one THEY put out.

Do you see NAMES associated with that map? Do you see specific names of representatives or senators or any political figure on that map? Tell me, do you? DO YOU? Find the original map and see if what your BLOG is true or just made up BS right wing extremist crap.

NO YOU DON'T and do you know WHY you don't see names of representatives or senators on that map? Because it's not a hit list!

Wuky, for the sake of clarity, I believe if you review the source it appears that when you "mouse over" or "click" the target icon, a politician pops up. (ETA: IN 2nd map.)

Inasmuch as you and I are birds of a feather, I just wanted to point that out.

Wukky was right here...I found the original DNC map...no pop ups of names etc on mouse over...

I see rational thinking still has managed to ellude you. Comparing Palin to Manson is like comparing Obama to Hitler, hey, they both have commited war crimes, they've both used lies and calls to violence to further their cause. Or does that analogy not work because it puts your messiah in a bad light. The only person responsible for this is the individual who pulled the trigger, of course being a liberal, you'll grasp at straws and use any excuse to bastardize this tradgedy into something it's not..................ah well, thnks for not letting me down, I'd have expected nothing less from you or the idiots that actually starred your comparison.

More to the point...

It is an uncomfortable spin of logic that folks employ in these circumstances...

When one of their idealogical kingpins gets caught being an idiot...instead of defending or condemning the action on it's merits...they instead search for something remotely similiar that the "other team" did at some point in history and declare it a moral "wash".

That just doesn't fly with me. Sarah Palin makes her living off of exploiting folks in a time of crisis for her own celebrity. Her rhetorical touchstones are anger, intolerance and demagogeury...

And just because the left has spat that nonsense to a either a lessor or greater degree in the past....in no way speaks to whether it is OK.

Hell...there was a movie made about assasinating President Bush...I hated the man, but also loudly disagreed with anyone that thought that was "OK".

It was not! And niether is the efen BS that Sarah Palin spouts.

I am not sure why so many people think we need to wait until someone shows up at a town hall with an AK-47 and a "Mama Grizzly" t-shirt in order to simply say....enough already...that type of political "motivational" rhetoric does not need to include "2nd amendment remedies" toward people declared "Hell bent on destroying our freedoms".

For God's sake...enough...its not right...sniper scope crosshairs? C'mon...I don't care who is doing it or has done it...it is not OK.

In a socialist, centralized, one party system "our guns" as in "our rights" do not exist. Their guns and their rights and their free speech are the only speech, guns and rights that exist. That won't happen and they are angry about it.

Guns do not equal rights.

Guns do not equal free speech.

A place where those with guns are the ones entitled to rights or unprosecuted political speech?
That would be any given communist dictatorship.

And there are legitimate debates to be had, but the word "socialist" has become a punchline where the joke is that the person screaming it is so politically ignorant that they use the word as a catch-all to encompass a whole spectrum of uncertaintity and fear stemming from thier political ignorance while at the same time proclaiming they have no desire for rational conversation that might assuage those fears.

Hmmmm. Kindly tell us what you'd like folks to do? What, pray tell, remedies do you seek?

If Sarah would have heeded the advice of my dear late Grandpappy Kurious, she might not be in this mess. "While it's nice to be important, it's more important to be nice."

First off how in the h@ll did Palin become a issue in the shooting? Seriously are we not stretching things? As for the guy getting his gun, why after all of his "issues" he not placed on the no list for purchasing a gun? I'll tell ya why, it's because we have so many useless feel good laws that get no enforcement! The local law enforcement dropped the ball big time. You should also look at the college he was kicked out of for his behavior. All across the board I see no one actually looking at the real tragedy. The repeated fails by society to deal with problems. It's easier to blame high profile celebrities then the failings of the little gears that make society go. What good are laws if a haphazard enforcement is done? Oh yea and isn't being a atheist against the typical gun toting right wing conservative image???

I don't think Sarah Palin caused this...but it makes her rhetoric no less disgusting and dangerous...I won't apologize for calling her rhetoric what it is and no one should be waiting for someone to show up at a town hall meeting with an AK-47 wearing an "I love Sarah Palin t-shirt" before they feel comfortable saying that her violent rhetoric is NOT OK.

No apologies from me.

Jon Stewart said it well..

I wouldn't blame our political rhetoric any more than I would blame heavy metal music for Columbine...and that is coming from somebody who truly hates our political environment."

It is toxic, It is unproductive. But to say that that is what has caused this or that the people in that are responsible for this...I don't think you could do it...you cannot outsmart crazy. You don't know what a troubled mind will get caught on."

I do think it's important to watch our rhetoric.

I think it's a worthwhile goal not to conflate our political opponents with enemies if for no other reason than to draw a better distinction between the manifestos of paranoid madmen and what passes for acceptable political and pundit speak.

It would be really nice if the ramblings of crazy people didn't in any way resemble how we actually talk to each other on TV.

You seemed to have negated your point. If the only person responsible is the person that did the killing, then why is Manson not comparable? Who did he kill? Free speech is free speech. For that matter, what did Hitler do that was so bad again? You have to get your talking points straight. Either talking is just talking and the talker is neve responsible for someone else killing, or you admit Manson and Hitler managed to use their words to do some pretty bad things. You cannot have it both ways.

Just as guilty as whom and for what? Please explain who killed for Obama? I believe by my logic, Obama is just as guilty as Palin. Neither of which would be as guilty as Manson or Hitler. How are you not following? Then when it comes to the point I was making about creating an atmosphere, Palin is far more guilty than Obama and you all on ATS have yet to prove anything counter.

It is pretty simple. Either you believe words have no power and you think Manson is wrongfully imprisoned or you acknowledge that words do indeed have power. Is Obama as guilty as Palin for talking? Sure. Is Obama as guilty as Palin for creating an atmosphere of hatred and gunplay? NOPE!

In my opinion Sarah Palin, and Sharron Angle are owed absolutely NO apology, in fact they should be sued in civil court for damages from this shooting.

Sarah Palin made a hit list, and the congresswoman was on that list. She was targeted by Sarah Palin (Using gun cross-hairs) for elimination.

In my opinion Sarah Palin is particularly liable for this going down.

You know what? Charles Manson never killed anyone, however he was culpable for those crimes. I believe that Sarah Palin is just a louder more socially acceptable version of Charles Manson.

Kinda like this Leftist Blog: On January 6th the Daily Kos had an article titled My CongressWOMAN voted against Nancy Pelosi! And is now DEAD to me. This Post Had Been Removed After The Shootings.
[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/4a1c15cad098.jpg[/atsimg]
It is ironic that it’s no other than the far left Daily Kos who are pushing this blame Palin narrative when it was just 2 days ago when the Daily Kos indirectly called for the death of congreswomen Giffords.

While the shooter was a lone criminal, liberals are coming out of the woodworks to pin the shooting on no other than Governor Palin for targeting 20 house democrates during the 2010 mid-term elections. Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas Tweeted, “Mission accomplished, Sarah Palin.” Matt Lewis notes:

If your first response to such an event is to think of Sarah Palin, something is wrong.
It is a sad state of affairs when a tragedy gets politicized, unfortunately some on the left have no shame in doing so and as a result we are left with no alternative but to correct the record.

And Now For The Revised Version.

My CongressWOMAN voted against Nancy Pelosi! And is now DEAD to me!

EDIT NOTE: I initially deleted this diary out of sensitivity to the victims of Saturday's Tucson shooting, including my Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, who is now courageously fighting for her life at UMC. I undeleted because this has been twisted and distorted by not only the right wing blogs, but also the mainstream media as an example of a vitriolic statement from the progressives that is somehow the equal of what Sarah Palin, Sharron Angle, Glenn Beck, Limbaugh, Boortz, and other far-right stokers of vitriol, anger, and hatred have said and written. Which I believe can and does influence people, especially the already unstable to carry out acts of violence...perhaps even the exact shooting in Tucson on Saturday.

I am from the Tucson area and live in Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords' district. I worked like a dog for her elections when she was in the Arizona House, surrounded by rightwing nutcases. When Arizona re-districted in 2002, a seat opened up and she was right smack in the middle of it. So was I because I live in Oro Valley, Arizona, which is at the heart of that - then - new CD. I was one of several people to talk her into running and pledging complete loyalty and pledging to raise as much money as possible for her.

BoyBlue's diary :: ::

She ended up running for the first time against a fellow AZ House member, Randy Graf who was a rightwing whacko who advocated guns in bars and was the "Russell Pearce before Russell Pearce" vis-a-vis border issues. With a LOT of hard work and plenty of money, Gabby won. Easier than thought, too. I never like to throw money in people's faces, but i have given Gabrielle Giffords THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of dollars in both good times and bad times for me financially.

Fast forward to this election season. A weirdo asshole named Jesse Kelly who advocated ELIMINATING Social Security and was a tea bagger favorite got the GOP nom to run against her. I am gay and had been married and my spouse left me January 15, 2010. I shot myself in the mouth in a serious suicide attempt, because of that. Barely surviving, I spent two months in the hospital and still have some paralysis. I did receive a severance from my employer, as i had been laid off in December, 2009. That may have been part of the reason my spouse left me.

Anyway, after months of physical and mental rehab, I got back into the political scene and started working for Gabby once again. I raised over $100,000 for her and maxed her out myself out of my severance, even though i still don't have work and could not qualify for state aid because of my severance.

She wins her re-election and told me she was still a supporter of Speaker Pelosi at her victory party. We talked about how Nancy Pelosi was a successful woman and accomplished oh so much in just four years as Speaker.

Today, just a little while ago, I saw on Andrea Mitchell Reports (out of the one eye in can still see out of) that Giffords voted AGAINST Nancy Pelosi as our Minority Leader. Rhetorical question: I fought back from my condition and jumped in with both feet to help Gabrielle Giffords for THIS #???

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is dead to me now. I won't lift a finger, make one phone call, nor will i EVER vote for her in the future. And why did she do this? Giffords never told me she was conservative Democrat. And her voting record is okay. Damn.

Found here: On January 6th the Daily Kos had an article titled My CongressWOMAN voted against Nancy Pelosi! And is now DEAD to me.
I almost forgot, The Target from your Lefty Blog, This is from 2008.

It's sad that the right feels so slighted by this incident and has gone into overdrive to deflect blame away from themselves.

If they truly had no part in the violent and acerbic tone over the last two years, why work so hard to deflect and deny?

The reason is, this kind of behavior is exactly what the right wanted, it's what they want for this country and they hope to see more of it every day.

Over the last two years there has been repeated calls for violent revolution by the radical right.

MSNBC Host; Time for an American Revolution? Yes,
Revolution Battle Plan

There are many many others on this site alone.

But instead of lauding their hero Jared Loughner, the right has not only abandoned him, but immediately distanced themselves from the very act that they were hoping to happen.

Showing no courage of their convictions, the radical right has thrown him under the bus and have tried to distance themselves from him, and somehow denying that they ever did anything to incite such violence.

The first instance this toolbag threated someone the should have went to his house and revoked his liscense to carry. If not confiscate his weapon for threating to comit a felony.

Yes, the incompetent sheriff should have had at least 1 deputy there for security.
