Just heard the Premier on nine news then saying that they are expecting the Ipswich River to rise by 18m.
In comparison to 1974, where it rose 20m.

Going to see if I can confirm that online ...

Yep

The Brisbane river is beginning to breach, parts of the city are doing voluntary evacuations. That's me.

Tommorrow should be bad for Brisbane we have a king tide at 3:00pm, on top of the that the Dam is quickly approaching 200%. They'll have to release some of the water into the swollen river.

Thanks yet again for everyone adding updates, here's what I can find in between boiling water for bubba's bottles for just in case, i've got one friend who's home is now under & they are trapped as SES can't get in and they can't get out - Mother in-law's home is almost got water in, at last check it was at the front steps, but all roads are cut, so they have to wait and see too.

Links & updates - (of which have been mentioned in previous replies, but here are the links anyway, because I feel like i've abandoned my own thread today!)
CBD Suburbs evacuated
Death Toll at 13, after 5 more bodies found.
Gympie facing more woes
Barges & pontoons break off in river
Maryborough back on alert

ABC News Website - complete coverage here.

The TV reporter just said that all of Eagle st & The valley are being evac'd, be careful getting out, as traffic is insane at the moment, also heard that parts of the M1 are closed because of water on the road at Logan, so if you're headed down to the GC, try and find a way around it, as apparently, at around 12 the traffic was backing onto the gateway.

We've got our just in case bags almost packed, torches, battery radio, a ladder if we need to get on the roof, food thats not relying on the fridge, so hopefully will make it through ok. My wishes to all of you stuck out there, your family & friends too.

Will come and update some more soon, apparently the peak will hit the river just before 3pm, so that's when we will see what damage might happen in the city.

Thanks 12voltz
Hopefully we will be ok, but our suburb didn't exist in 1974, so there's no real info on if it went under or not - it's not currently on the list, so remaining hopeful!

So quick updates from the Queensland Police Service FB page:

All Eagle St Pier and Bikeways and associated businesses are closed and being evacuated.
Water is at footpath level.

Here's the link - they are updating a bit more since a 2pm media conference

That is one quick-thinking, brave (?) dude.

Especially considering how fast that water was rising.

If it was my car I would have just left it cause I wouldn't have the nerve for that.

Damn! That was insane...

Oo

This is a pic they showed on the news about areas of rainfall. Shows pretty much most of Australia is getting it heave.

And us over here, ... it's like someone put a wall around us!

The lighter areas are where the rain is hitting the most in Qu and Vic??

Ed: oddly Queensland light blue area is the worst hit. Light blue there is lower rainfall.
In Vic, the worst hit is light blue - higher rainfall.

Here you can see the water flowing over the footpath along the river now

Fingers are crossed for all Qld'ers in this time of need.
King Tide expected tomorrow.... water flowing out and king tide coming in.

Cyclone alert for Sunshine Coast area
Wivenhoe dam well over filled, and not letting up due to the water release.
and the heavy rainfall for the surrounding areas.

I wont make this a political post but just wish we had a real leader.

Condamine river rising fast today. I've been down to check on it three times today.. about an hour apart each time to find it rising about 1 or 2 feet in that time. Considering the land area it covers that is a massive rising in a short time as it almost reaches the previous high point so far.

Warwick is now surrounded by a fast rising sea of water.

Many shops are closed. No bread or milk at any open shops and shopping centres.

Just learned one of our friends here lost his grandma and niece in the flash flood yesterday.

Hang on folks.

We are NOT on cyclone watch. The tropical depression is still well out over Vanuatu and hardly moving.

Here is a link to a live webcam on the Brisbane River.
I just saw a jetty fly past a police boat.
And heard on the news there is a king tide due tomorrow.
Current reports estimate it to get to around 90 metres, that's approx 10 stories i think.

Here is another from the top of the Toowoomba Ranges, basically the beginning of the flash flood and possibly the reason. As it heads downhill picking up speed.
