This is a link to a BBC documentary which was aired for the first time 7th January 2011.
The show describes itself as tracing '...the sinister ways science has been used to try to control our minds, finding that its pursuit has led to
some truly horrific experiments......
.....In a compelling and at times disturbing series, Dr Michael Mosley explores the brutal history of experimental psychology.......
.......To begin, Michael traces the sinister ways this science has been used to try to control our minds. He finds that the pursuit of mind control
has led to some truly horrific experiments and left many casualties in its wake. Michael takes a hallucinogenic drug as part of a controlled
experiment to try to understand how its mind-bending properties can change the brain....
....This is a scientific journey goes to the very heart of what we hold most dear - our free will, and our ability to control our own destiny.
The Brain: A Secret History - Mind Control
I was pretty surprised to find this show being aired by the BBC. It appears to follow in the same vein as Adam Curtis (Century of the Self etc) , in
that he approaches the topic with a brutal honesty that is refreshing even tho' the subject matter is horrendous.
I was always aware that many people in their employment, and even in their personal lives, were making use of Skinner's techniques while completely
unaware that they were doing so. His techniques have almmost become 'best practice' in the home and in the workplace.
One thing's for sure, once psychology was regarded as a form of science of the mind - just over 100 years ago- they set about trying to master and
manipulate it in a very concerted manner. No bones about it.
