What is the reason behind the flagging of threads some are fav and some are alert what does this mean to me.

stars, flags, applauses, etc. factor into WATS and Karma points and those points mean: whatever you want them to mean to you...

Welcome to ATS) Flagging a thread shows that you think it is important. Adding it to favorites will place the forum section on your my ats page. Subscribing will add the thread to your list of threads that you replied to.

Stars are pretty much like flagging, but for a specific comment.

Say, if you like a post for some reason, you can star it to show that you like it. Good posts always get lots of stars

They're not really important though. At least, that's what i think.
