No, I sat up here and watched the news.

When a neighbors house burns down all of the neighborhood comes together with food, clothing, shelter, money, and comfort. We don't call the county and complain about the debris that used to be our neighbor's house. We gather together to help them clean it up, we put them up in our homes, and we help with the rebuilding.

When the snow flies we put on our long underwear, we grab a shovel and we dig out, then we dig each other out. I watch the news. Rather than grabbing a shovel New Yorkers clogged the phone lines to the city to complain that the snow hadn't been cleared.

I don't think you are living within the
realms of reality.Maybe you spend
too much time playing video games.
What the op is saying is the truth, you

You haven't made a point... that's the point.

When was the last time you stopped to help a perfect stranger with no though of compensation whatsoever?
My husband and I are well known in this county by LEO and individuals alike for helping when no one else will. One winter a car broke down with two women and a whole boat load of kids. The fan belt broke and the battery died. It was bitter cold out. They had no money. The state police started calling shops nearer first, explained that they were cold with children and could the shop help? One by one the shops all said we're not giving them the mileage, part and labor for nothing! Long story short my husband towed them in, I fed them while my husband went and bought the part, and we put it on their car and filled up their tank, then sent them on their way. Even the thanks they gave weren't necessary. We would have done it without it.

On the other hand, if someone came to our shop and told us we were obliged to give them all the above services for nothing we'd send them packing post haste!

If/when society breaks down I'll help as many of the first type as I have resources to help. The second type will not get the same treatment. If I get killed by some moron who thinks taking is better than asking I won't know or care since I'll be dead, but they might wind up being sorry for having eliminated the accumulated knowledge and experience I've gained.

I have 10k rounds of 5.56 nato
~2k rounds of 7.62 nato
And about 1000 rounds of ammo for my pistols.
I also keep about 500 rounds of shotgun shells.
On top of this I have the ability to reload more.

Are you really telling the whole truth or is there a slight
exaggeration on the numbers there pal?
and why all the relatively big calibre? no .22?

this just sounds a little over the top.
OR that is where the ammo in the states vanished to LOL.

if true you could barter well with the rounds.

first off, hill billy hiders. you cannot hide from satellites or drone unless you plan on living underground the rest of your lives.
secondly: the more of you that assemble and gather in communities the easier it is for them to locate you with their superb sensors.

the safest place to be and have the ability to move freely, will be in very large cities, because you will have service tunnels and sewer systems, not including large high-rise buildings all around you to take cover in

while everyone's heading for the hills to become trapped by their stupidity, the smart ones are getting setup deep within the undergrounds of protected fortresses of buildings and tunnels that sensors cant see through.

with drones and satellites you never know when they're watching and listening.

satellites are perpetually mapping and anything that is changing or has changed on the surface of the earth will be marked as an anomaly and will be better investigated by the powers that be. i hope you all understand that these advanced sensors and optics have no problem seeing insects and heat signatures.

better be safe than sorry

I'm not hiding. Unless something happens to this area I'll be right here. No need for satellites, the government already knows where I am. Been here for ever. If they want me that bad they know how to get here.

I'd really rather be dead than to hole up in some overcrowded city living on dog, cat or rat meat, though, or worst case scenario when the food runs out... humans.

ok here is my point.you start a thread with a spin, then you under pressure of peers recant your story a full 180 degrees.you argue which ever point you choose all through the thread..some might say you are a little mental but I'm not qualified...just sayin,,,you have watched too many movies. You accuse us for not being compassionate. How can you justify making that judgement.....you have from the start discribed the shoes you have walked in...yet without looking you are so eager to jump right into others shoes and pass said judgement...Yet anouther case of I have something you dont and I will pray that you get what I have...am I wrong, Mamabeth? you too am I wrong. Why do you think I dont have what you Do have and why must I get it?

Personally I just do not get why this stupid argument has gone on for 18 mind numbing, chest beating, pages. Everybody has made valid points, and at the same time everybody is full of crap! No matter if you are prepared or unprepared for it, or if you are in the city or country, you CAN NOT say for any certainty that you will be able to do anything at all. If by chance you are left alive, you have to make a decision as to what kind of person you are at heart. Will you ignore/murder people in need of help or, will you try to help humanity survive? As far as the 'farmers' are concerned what makes you think that anything will grow in a nuclear winter situation? Do you think that people in the country are the only people that can drive a damned tractor? I live in the mountains, and I have lived in cities too. My experience's are that there are good and bad people in both, but there is a reason that some people are known for being 'country bumpkins'...The strong and lucky will survive, the weak and mis-fortunate will not. Just saying...

Do I really have to go back through a year's worth of posts that show I'm the same now as I was then?

People NOW will shoot at you for trespassing in the country. That does not mean I would. People in a catastrophic situation would kill trespassers without waiting to see if they are friend or foe. That does not mean I would. I would defend my family and the produce that will feed my family and yours. I prefer not to have to. I prefer that you come to me and say "Hey, if I help you farm the bottom will you give me some produce this year and seed for next?"

The warning is being given about how tight knit country people are and NOW is the time to get to know them, not after the SHTF. The original post is a copy and paste of a post I made on another thread, I didn't rewrite it for it's own thread. If it isn't complete, read the rest of the thread to get the gist fleshed out. I know you're able to read since you responded. Explaining the country mentality and saying I'd help people is not a contradiction.

Forgot to respond to how I know the urban mentality: 90% of my family live in two of the most populated cities in the nation. I think I'm qualified to know how they think after years of discussions about moving out of the city and becoming less dependent on the food chain, touch phones and mass transit.

I don't know what you have and to be honest...
I don't care. Some of us have enough IQ points
to read the writing on the wall, others don't.I am
preparing for a worse case scenario, some are
not.
That statement may make others feel that I am
being selfish, can't help it.I have to think of my
family first.I will fight to keep them safe and as
healthy as possible.
If you have a problem with this...talk to my paw!

Well I can safely say IF not when SHTF, I will not be running to the U.S. You know from a European View, this is why the Americans are so hated around the world. I see a lot of sensible American responses so am not generalising but this train of thought is just stupid and moronic. I find it unbelievable that in a time of crisis, you would choose to kill people in order to save your property etc. Do you really think the City folk will be out to rape your chickens and eat your kids? They will be fighting for survival and you will end up coming off worse my friend. God bless America!

the fact is in real war survival situations, when you know you're being hunted, you will know to elude your captors and kill everyone that could expose your position. anything less would be suicide. everyone and everything could be a potential threat or even worse a trap. never jeopardize your position and never make any noticeable movements. it doesn't matter if anyone else survives. everyone you bring into your circle is one more weakness in your link to the strength of your chain. its better to only listen to everyone's crosstalk and stay totally aware of everything that goes on around you while remaining an enigma. this my friends is the way it must be to increase and ensure your odds of survival, and if you don't have the patience and the stomach for it, its better to just barrel up and take the pill so you don't jeopardize others

Cool. I thought it was our foreign policy. Or because we didn't conform to what all the socialists want us to be, madly copying every jaded philosophical fashion trend from Europe. But no, it's just our lack of hospitality. Check. Lesson learned.

What I find unbelievable is that you would take this thread seriously, knowing that half of ATS posters are under 21 (and that many of them aren't even American!). But hey, if it feeds your prejudice, go for it! God Help Europe!

I'd hope they'd be more interested in eating my chickens. Nothing nastier than despoiling one's food source.

When I was a kid around 5 or so, I can't remember for sure, I approached a farmer who was on the edge of their "space." He told me I could not come around here and if I did he would cut one of my ears off. He said he had a whole sting of ears in his barn. At the time I believed what this twisted dirty old man was saying but it was just a bluff. Since then I always suspect xenophobic country kin to be a little crazy in the cranium and would address them accordingly. I don't care how connected / well armed a group of country folk think they are, a couple of skilled scouts can create enough psychological trouble for them to bring about what ever end result is desired. I could build a shelter that Bubba and Earl could walk over and they would not suspect me. But in the end, why would I want to take over your cabin and set myself up to be the next one to try and hold it? You probably don't even have a bicycle generator hooked up the cable TV. No Trespassing signs don't mean much more to me than to be extra careful and quick to react. I've even encounterd land owners who thought they owned the deer as well.

It would be interesting to see the Native American's perception of what we have done to their world in the short two hundred years that decent civilization have brought us to today. Let's see, we have polluted the waters, depleted the fish and game to the point of them needing to be stocked, roads take us into what little remains of the wilds and those areas that are left to the public as wilderness areas are mostly rock and ice. I've meet people who have lived the primitive hunter gatherer lifestyles while roaming the land and it's very difficult for them to live off the land even with their knowledge and experience. The productive areas like valleys and wide streams are private property for the most part. Now it looks like the people who want to live a simple life away from the icky people in the cities are the new renegades. Country folk see people bugging into the wilds and they will only take in so many before they realize that they really only need the stuff they are hauling with them and would just as soon snipe them in their vehicles just for their "stuff."

I've stocked up but am not sure I even want to stay in this country during it's decline. I wish that was not the way it appears to be going but there are too many people and too many guns.

Thank you for that post, I was about to reply to the other one, but this recent post redeemed yourself. There is plenty that people in different walks of life could offer each other, and just because one is from somewhere, doesnt mean they have not lived elsewhere. Even the OP herself came from a family of city slickers. She thinks that people will come to the mountain for any situation. There are plenty of situations where it may just be the other way around. I really do not need to leave Illinois unless there is a massive flood, and where Im at, its a 45 minute drive to Chicago, and a 45 min drive to crop fields. The small farmer is a dying breed, especially here, and that cuts down the percentage of some of those small farmers being "country bumpkins" willing to shoot someone first and ask questions later. One more thing, not trying to be argumentative, but just cuz those mountains are on an inactive fault line doesnt mean they can not become active again in the right scenario. Some food for thought for those on the mountain thinking they have the perfect hideout from SHTF.

SMS you sound like an intelligent women, but i think you have the wrong state of mind. You say things like "violence to the plunderers" or whatever, also things like "ive grown these crops my whole life, their mine and intruders wont take em from me".

Alright, well guess what 'SMS', We (city people) have worked our entire lives, and earned EVERYHTING we have from homes/vehicles/clothes/entertainment and what not and the government comes and destroys it (when SHTF)... same thing... So when starving humans, who have lived out in the harsh weather while you chill out in your country home, as they come and try to get some food to LIVE, and your willing to use violence... well lets just say you and your old man are "old" haha... you havent seen nothing yet, weather you know your area and land or not. US "city" people arent useless, just as hard working people as you are.

So think twice old women before pullin the trigger on a starving human being... Karma, is a son of a gun.

Goodluck in the future to you all, with protective/violent people like this old women you might need ... ?
(sarcasm)

Kelliott

Ps:
One more thing, you dont "own" any land. Its all apart of Earth, Mother Nature. And she is my mother Earth too. In your little mind you may think you "Own" apart of Earth, but you dont
Its a large place here, and its too all her beings (earth's) that walk/swim/breath on it. Basically what im saying is... you dont own sh!t
