news.yahoo.com

ALGIERS, Algeria – Riots over rising food prices and chronic unemployment spiraled out from Algeria's capital on Thursday, with youths torching government buildings and shouting "Bring us Sugar!"

Riots on Wednesday night in the neighborhood saw a police station, a Renault car dealership and other buildings set ablaze. Police with tear gas fired back at stone-throwing youths through the night.

It came after price hikes for milk, sugar and flour in recent days

Another protest in another country. Ive kind of lost track of how many different nations citizens are protesting and rioting. Ever since about a month or 2 ago, it seems like people in a bunch of countires began protesting.

The article also said Tunisia is experiencing the same unrest.

According to the article, unrest in Tunisia began in mid-december when a man lit himself on fire because police confiscated his fruits and vegtables because he was selling them without a permit.

Also student protests in Egypt triggered by its government's decision regarding schools in Alexandria, (mostly ignored by msm same as Tunisia uprising); that makes 3 boiling spots in this region at the same time.

Simply put? Because we aren't starving in America yet. There is a reason the majority of America will stay fed; we are armed and most other nations do not have the weapony we do. This is why you see so many people attacking with sticks and rocks.

In France, leading up to the Revolution, food surpluses were kept in the city to feed the massive populations and to avoid rioting. Most of the rioting in France at that time was rural because the population was scattered and the army could be brought in to quell the rioters before its ranks swelled too big. That was a time where transportation limited food distribution, and most food was relatively local.

Fast forward to our global, commoditized, and monitized food supply and you will find that poor nations can be roughly equated to the rural parts of France and that affluent nations are the urban areas. The geographic scale has changed, but the fear of overthrow by our governments does not. So TPTB figure it is better to have food riots in poor areas where they can be quelled easier, than it is to deal with a food riot in a developed country where it can trigger mass panic and threaten their positions of power.

Also, see the Declaration quote in my signature line.
