a reply to: traditionaldrummer While there are some isolated quotes by some of the Founding Fathers, the vast majority did not share your opinion. For a better understanding from the original papers of the Founding Fathers, please go to wallbuilders.com. Yes, we were definitely founded as a Christian nation. Sorry.

Wallbuilders - - - not bias or anything like that

WallBuilders is an organization dedicated to presenting America's forgotten history and heroes, with an emphasis on the moral, religious, and constitutional foundation on which America was built . . .

GOAL

WallBuilders' goal is to exert a direct and positive influence in government, education, and the family by (1) educating the nation concerning the Godly foundation of our country; (2) providing information to federal, state, and local officials as they develop public policies which reflect Biblical values; and (3) encouraging Christians to be involved in the civic arena.

No we were not. This is most clearly shown by the fact that we have "Freedom of Religion" which means all Religions are protected equally and NO Religion is mandated as the Nations Religion. However, Christianity does not allow for the worship of other Gods. Therefore if Christianity was supposed to be the Nations Religion it wouldn't and couldn't allow for the worship of any other God other than the Christian God. Those two ideals are in direct opposition to each other.

It doesn't matter what Religion the founders had personally. They understood the reason for not having any Religion as the Nations Religion. You cannot protect all Religions equally while mandating one as having authority. Especially not when that one Religion demands that you not have any other Religion but itself. In fact the First Amendment is in direct opposition to the First Commandment which is "You shall have no other Gods before me."

Also, the term "Creator" is used in the Constitution which is a neutral term. They don't use "The Lord, Yaweah, God, Christ, Jesus, etc. If they intended for Christianity to be THE Religion of the Nation do you really think they would have left that out???
