I've tried to find out why, but maybe my search algorythm is off(I am sick atm).

Some say it was 432 in the days of Mozart, and that it has better properties for the brain.

Some say it is 438.

What I don't understand is why the change was made at all. I seem to remember learning that 20.000 musicians in france voted no for the new standard. Supposedly Hitler wanted the radio channel frequency changed as well to fit with 440. Yet here we are with 440 being the standard.

Pls help

a pdf for ur consideration

and also

Wikipedia A 440

a brief summation from what i read.

Most of Moazrt's work was written for 432.

However, later musical instrument makers
tried to improve to make their instruments sound
clearer so they could outsell their competition.
However, raising the pitch to over 440 lead to various
singers complaining that this was too high for their
voices so it was dropped back down to 439.
However, the tuning of most instruments was
done by electronic means. In the 30's this
pitch was transmitted by radio wave and since
439 was a prime number it could not be
reproduced electronically with the technology
of the era, so it was raised up a notch to 440
so the universal pitch tone could be broadcast
over the airwaves. And since became standard.

there are other tunings that are used for esoteric reasons too, like the 'golden' scale, etc.

The wikipedia page tells me nothing of Why.

The PDF on the other hand was quite informative. Cheers for the link

An interesting thread. I was unaware that the Note A had changed frequency. As they say you learn something everyday. The above posters links seem to contain the relevant information so will be having a read through them.
Take Care ,Regards
