Not John Paul George and Ringo, silly. These beetles:

Agents Find 'Dangerous' Beetle At L.A. Airport
Officials say the insect was discovered in a shipment of Indian rice arriving with personal effects from Saudi Arabia

LOS ANGELES — U.S. customs officials said on Wednesday they had found a beetle considered one of the world's most dangerous agricultural pests in a shipment of rice arriving at Los Angeles International Airport.
Agricultural specialists with U.S. Customs and Border Protection found an adult khapra beetle, eight larvae and a shed skin in a shipment of Indian rice from Saudi Arabia last week, spokesman Jaime Ruiz said.

The khapra beetle, which is native to India and not currently established in the United States, is considered one of the most destructive pests of grain products and seeds.
"It is endemic to several countries and the reason it is very dangerous is that its life cycle is very long and it goes into all kinds of food grains," Naveeda Mirza, agriculture program manager for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, told Reuters.
"It has several dormant stages. It can go dormant for a long time and then become active again. Its very very hard to get rid of and that's why its very dangerous," Mirza said. "It is one of the top 10 most dangerous pests not established here."

Agricultural warfare? Why not. I think everything is on the table now. Hey, it worked with the Tribbles, didn't it?

Sound more like Monsato is setting up an alibi to advance on some kind of agenda. You know, create a terrorist to impose new regulations......been there, done that.

Peace

Ah ha ha...you got me. I was ready to post in defense of the Fab Four. Yeah- this kind of thing happens and will continue to happen with international trade. Produce seems to be a big one for dangerous hitchhikers. I remember seeing a pic with some poisonous spider emerging from a crate of bananas. Then there are other areas, such as the steelhead in our waters. I don't really see an easy answer on this one, but i'm sure the government would just as soon throw more money at it for closer inspections. Nice tribble reference BTW, live long and prosper my friend!

Another Hegelian Dialectic at work. Create a problem, offer a "solution" and screw everyone over by means of that "solution". Nothing new here, like you said. Too bad most people are asleep to what's going right on under their proverbial noses, eh?

Well that's my humble opinion anyway.....

I'll bet you anything there is a genetically engineered crop that is resistant to this particular bug. In that case it's big business to spread that bug. To avoid angry people with torches and pitchforks......blame the terrorists.

Peace

I agree. Isn't it convenient how we now have a nebulous group of unknown "assailants" with which to do battle with. Forever and ever and ever.
Just like Emanuel Goldstein in Orwell's 1984.

But I digress.

S&F for the heads up!
it is definitely a possibility that this could be a bio-war attack
on the other hand laziness and carelessness could have a hand in it
good thing they got caught though considering all the ports, some may have slipped through
definitely something to keep an eye out for and not just file away.

also thought it was a fab four thread
my grandma used to say:
"The Beatles!! They were the ones who brought all that hippy craziness here!!"

I really hate "bait and switch," in my opinion it is a violation of t & c. Knowingly creating a 'hoax' title to draw people in, that is dishonesty and should not be tolerated. Why not a honest title, this is ats after all?

For a second there i thought of the band.

But now... using biowarfare... it's a good thing they found those beetles, huh?

Well, anyway, good thread. S&F for you, pal.

I like my thread title. It's catchy and draws one in to an otherwise seemingly dry an uninteresting find. So there.

Im highly offended and disappointed. I really wanted to go off on one of my tangents concerning the Beatles being barely able to play their instruments and had terrible voices and bad lyrics...

Seriously though, great find! Thanks for posting.. definitely gives some food for thought concerning the biowarfare stuff and our "new" methods of war and terror these days.
