We are definitely going through an interesting ecological time.

I don't know what else to say except for "It's been nice knowin ya bananas" I eat one every morning.. and they have been good to me.

The call this the HIV of plantations, this fungus.

I have a hard time thinking about what our world will look like 10 years from now. I'm sure it will go something like this:

"Hey dad? What are those yellow things in the pictures?"

"Bananas son"

"Ba-what? What are those?"

This one has been around for a while and I was reported false/hoax. Hmm let me find where I remembered seeing it and show you guys. Only reason I remember this because two years ago me and a friend had this exact same discussion.

Go back and read that whole article... It acknowledges this current blight as real, though at the time of it's writing it said that it only effects cavendish.... Which is what my link says....

Haha, Ray Comfort will be upset...

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when you reduce genetic diversity by removing native ecosystems and creating vast, unbroken cultures of clonal or (in most non-banana cases) highly inbred strains.

There is a very good reason that most tropical forests are a patchwork of different species, even when one might be a better competitor than another. Whenever one species gets too common... disease compensates by wiping it out.
