And if a 16 year old can have sex with a 17 year old why cant 17 or 16 year old do it with an 18 year old? If someone mentally retarded can give consent, can a really mentally mature child or teenager give consent? It will happen in the future and you will see it with your own eyes if you don't die before it happens. The future generation will either allow for pedophilia or lower the age of sexual adulthood as they get more and more liberated sexually.

There have been threads about Priests committing acts of child sexual abuse. There have been threads about the Pope's and the Vatican's seeming reticence about these acts.

But to come forth and say "Catholics are Pedophiles", is making an erroneous assertion, slanderous, calumniousm, and casting what would be improper and vile aspersions.

All I want to get you to see is that Pedophilia is an extremely driving force within that population. Sexuality is a very strong drive within human beings, and when all that energy is directed towards children, it can be particularly damaging. Among mental health practitioners, it is among one of the most difficult areas to find effective treatment.

Pedophiles have a tendency to place themselves in jobs and activities that lead them to be around children, their targets. They might become boy scout leaders, teachers,coaches, volunteers at youth centers. They might become Priests. They might form Pornography rings, or develop groups.

Would they like for sex with children to become commonplace and legal? I'm sure they would. We might expect to further see such groups emerging who are proponents of this.

There is nothing "progressive" about child abuse. It has been around for centuries, and will, I expect, remain, and probably increase in numbers and frequency. If the pedophiles have their way, it will at some point become socially acceptable.

But no. There is not one of the big "political" groups, such as liberals or conservatives, who as a whole endorse child abuse. But there might be perpetrators of child abuse within those groups.

1. You cannot say The liberal elite are child molesters and pedophiles just because a group of seriously misguided individuals also lean toward that political philosophy. Otherwise I can say "The Catholic Church exists to molest young boys"

2. I went to a very right wing conservative military academy here in the US for high school. It is well known around the world. In my 3 years there, I knew of 2 cases of children being raped. Both were cases where an older kid, high school senior, was with a 7th or 8th grader. Oddly enough both times the molester was an Arab. Should we now assume all Arabs like to molest little boys too???

3. This story does make me sick. There are very sick people in the world who do unthinkable things. We should find them, and either rehabilitate them or keep them locked away where they cannot hurt others. I think everyone in the world shares certain beliefs. Sex with children is wrong, stealing is wrong, murder, etc. (except for those who commit these acts of course)

We cannot go around saying any philosophy, religion, belief system, culture, etc is responsible or condones such behaviors. Otherwise the Catholic Church needs to be brought down for their cover up of thousands of cases of child molestation. One could also make the case that the whole idea of priesthood in the catholic church is the problem for them in the first place. No sex, no wife, it just seems so unnatural and not the way G-d intended. But I am not making a case against the Catholic church, its just the easiest example to use (which says something in itself).
