Could be they may be getting worried that US citizens may get tired of the crime caused by the prohibition policies on your side of the border and want to take up arms also.

Maybe the cartels have their own gun making factories. Its really not that impossible if you consider the insane amounts of money that the cartels have. What's stopping them from just setting up shop and making some of the most badass weapons on the planet? They have the money, and if anyone tries to stop them, I think we both know what happens to them.

Actually I have a friend that works as a vice cop in a Canadian city. Most of the guns the drug gangs have aren't stolen or smuggled in from the US. They are shipped in by the container load from various chinese manufacturers. They will sell to anyone with the money and they don't care about laws or copyrights. Want an M16 they make them and sell them, you can even get them with a US makers stamp on them.
