I am a pretty heavy smoker.
I support politicians taking a stand against smoking. As far as imposing rules...well, I am not a fan of that overall, even though I do understand the logic.
But if I ever met a politician that was pro-smoking...I would quickly lose respect for that politician.

overeating is the same...its just as unhealthy, just as horrific in casualties in the US, heart disease is rampant..so ya, politicians need to set examples...cry out for the people to focus on health of ourselves and as a nation...not make rules, but just get it in the meme to get back in shape.

not sure your point...seemed random.

Will clarify for you though.
It requires large organizations, such as a federal government, or even a big spooky new world order to do really big things for the civilization..such as colonize mars, fund massive scientific undertakings like laying the groundwork for the internet, or cracking the human genome, laying massive highway infrustructure, etc.

Large organized structured, large corporations, is a sign of our progression...now, they are not perfect entities, they are arguably evil cold faceless machines that destroy alot of the day to day, but what the outcome is decade to decade is arguably well worth the loss in our own uniqueness.

Once we have a certain amount of tech under our belt, then such backwoods living will be perfectly acceptable and will even have world designed specifically for those wanting to run away from anything more than townships...but until we have that option...the world must organize more and more into great structures to rebuild our tower of babal, so to speak.

Guy, honestly, I can barely understand anything you type. I don't know if it would help if you took a bit more time to scribe your replies instead of just pounding down on the keyboard or not but you may want to think about it.

In any case, I want to take a moment to do you the courtesy of a reply so you don't think I'm ignoring you.

I can't address whatever your point is directly, unfortunately, as I think we are experiencing a gap of comprehension. I appreciate your attempt to keep up but, quite obviously, we're not members of an intellectual peer group. I don't really know it would be worthwhile to invest much effort into replying to "like we need a big thing to like colonize Mars and # and like eventually we'll get gadgets and you can go into the backwoods." I'm sorry, guy. I appreciate your valiant effort but investing much toward this intercourse would be worthless for me. I'm reminded of what Dr. Richard Rorty said when addressing religious fundamentalists: we no more feel in a symmetrical communication situation than do kindergarten teachers talking with their students.

Best of luck with all your endeavors in life,
Z

When asked specifically if it was between Sarah Palin or Barack Obama...Palin gets toasted

Actually...the only one close to winning over Barack is a toss between Huckabee and Romney...and both of those lose if it was today...however, they are in the swing area where if they do a bit of magic, could potentially swing it.

Palin is a insult.

Where you're getting your data is a mystery:

Fifty-two percent (52%) of Likely U.S. Voters say their own views are closer to Sarah Palin’s than they are to President Obama’s, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

Poll

Your link doesnt go to anything.
Mine does.

And a new poll indicates that Obama leads the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee by 22 points.

Obama leads Palin by 22pts.

Krauthammer called Obama a "vulnerable" candidate and said Palin has "no chance of winning a general election" with negatives of "over 50 percent."

ETA:I got your link to work by adding that S. Guess I am not all that code savvy around here. You poll is not only older than mine, it does not say she would in. It is an abstract poll about how people claim they think. My more recent poll says she would lose an election tomorrow against Obama.

ETA +:Because polls are fun.

A new poll by Public Policy Polling has revealed that only 33 percent of Alaskans have a positive opinion of the former half-term GOP governor, while 58 percent don't.

However, last year 47 percent of Alaskans viewed Palin favourably, compared with 45 percent unfavourably, reports the New York Daily News.

She is most popular in Montana, where 44 percent view her favourably, while 50 percent view her unfavourably.

I'm telling you right now. Whatever this article says about sarah palin being right about anything... its wrong. Sarah Palin is the biggest political joke thats ever been created. She's not only misinformed about most every individual remark that she makes, she's also a bad actress.

HEY NOW! Whats wrong with being fat and happy? Afterall if people want to be that way who are you to tell them any different?

It should be a personal choice what people put in their mouth. Then again, if we were given more OPTIONS as to what to eat other than here have a big mac, maybe we wouldnt have this problem? GOGO FOOD SAFETY BILL! Moar MSG, Aspartame, Fluoride, Lead, Arsenic..... etc etc etc in everything we eat and drink.

Im just curious. When you put a chemical in food that tells your brain that the food you're eating is the most delicious thing you've ever had so you keep eating it.... is it your fault when you eat too much of it?

You wanna know what's funny?

You claim to believe in survival of the fittest, yet all I see is people wanting to force me to "be healthy" and "do this or that".

What's wrong with freedom and letting the idiots die off naturally through their own so called "bad habits"?? The problem solves itself in time! No need to make a Frankenstein monster gov't to micro-manage everything.

You can't have it both ways.

Let the Idiots die naturally and allow the fittest to survive and create a better tomorrow.

Or:

Keep the idiots alive with a Mommy Gov't Police State with a Gazillion new laws to micro-manage every aspect of our lives "To keep us Safe!" and "To keep us healthy!" and "To keep the planet clean!". That way the bad genes breed and become the majority....

Theres no need to intervene in a issue that solves itself naturally! Just gonna screw things up again!

You know what...Michelle is right...put the tub of chocolate covered ice cream down and get walking you fat $#@tards. Sarah...you seen your daughter lately? ya..put down the smores.

I gotta throw my stinking opinion in here....

I don't get the impression that Michelle Obama stays too far away from the cupcake platter, if you know what I mean.

Lead from the front, Michelle! Drop about 30 pounds from that extra large behind before you preach to the masses.

Personally, I could care less how much someone else weighs, but if you're going to talk the talk, you should walk the walk.

Edit to add:
Oh CRAP!!!! Am I on the Michelle Obama hit-list now?? I said that she had a fat butt.....
She is a powerful woman......

If I all of a sudden quit posting, please look for the conspiracy.

These conservative stupid hypocrites didn’t say anything when Ronald Reagan’s wife was fighting the war on drugs

When Reagan was elected President, Nancy's sole preoccupation was with redecorating the White House, at the expense of us taxpayers. If I remember correctly, she was buying a staggeringly expensive set of dinnerware when the President's advisors suggested that perhaps the First Lady should take on a relevant social cause instead of spending enough money to garner extreme resentment for the new First Family on the part an outraged citizenry.

Thus was born her masterful "Just Say No" campaign, a concept so stunningly simple that most of us overlooked it. Nancy Reagan didn't fight any war against drugs; she was handed a public stance and a positional image that would better suit the First Lady, & keep her too busy to spend more of our money.

And all that aside, it was a kinder, gentler age regarding drugs. We weren't fighting a war, we were just saying "no".

This time around, our current First Lady has dared to suggest that perhaps we Americans could stand to improve our diet, to exercise, & to lose weight.
My indignation knows no bounds. < /sarcasm >
I'm afraid I must call "Non-Issue" on this one.

You know that those POLLS are created by the media?

I don't believe any poll...you don't know how many people where asked, you don't know WHO was asked, you don't know WHERE they were asked.

I'm just saying don't trust information just because it comes from a big name, i'm sure being on this forum you already know that though.

I can NOT stand Sarah but I will agree on one thing and that is we are the ones who must make our own choices. As is we have people in this country who agree that TSA is doing a good job keeping us safe. These are the same people who want the govt to tell you how to eat. NO thank you.

Give it a rest will you?

Your constant nit-picking is becoming a tad annoying.

As long as we can get the gist of the post who cares about a few spelling errors?

I don't mean to dis you personally, zuul, but this is exactly how intellectually dishonest rhetoric works.

First you say that you think that a First Lady has a right to take the position of educator, so to speak. However, the government doesn't. Then you concluded by saying that Palin's thesis was basically correct.

However, her fundamental thesis here was that Michele Obama doesn't have a right to take a stance on public issues–not that governments should tell people what to think. She added that for the sake of pushing an emotional button, since, really, who DOES think the government should tell people what to think?

A favorite Conservative tactic–manipulate emotion and then turn it into an argument.

The truth of the matter is the government does teach us. The government has been in charge of the public schools for almost 100 years. That's the main problem with conservatives, they always leave out important facts that conflict with their version of reality.

And that's part of why so many Americans have been dumbed down, and indoctrinated into believing "the left and far left is right"... You people forget easily that it was a PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT who signed into law the Federal Reserve Act as well as the IRS as it exists today...

This is a problem of INDOCTRINATION... HItler also indoctrinated it's youth to be "physically fit", with socialism comes darwinism and the law of the "jungle where the fittest and most perfect are the only ones who should survive"...

Oh and if you don't think they use it for propaganda purposes just think about the pledge of allegiance. They make you pledge allegiance to a flag. Then there's this website that I created that exposes another peice of propaganda used. thegreatbartersystemlie.wordpress.com...

Wow, you sure are a brainwashed, ignorant person... that flag is part of this Republic of the United States... It represents all states that are part of the Union, and signifies not only this union but it is a tribute to the struggle and battles that the forefathers and patriots of old had to fight against the Brittish to form this nation...

Perhaps you should be educating yourself before you start putting your foot in your mouth...

Sarah Palin is right, the government shouldn't be telling people to exercise, or what to eat...

IT IS THE FREAKING DECISION OF EVERY INDIVIDUAL AS TO WHAT THEY WANT TO DO...

I want to know who the heck made any of you "lord of the land" that you want to force other Americans to do your will...
