When's the last time you've heard of someone getting wacked by the government and then left to rot in a dump? You and others have nothing but speculation, something governments will make sure never reaches the public, getting rid of bodies properly and leaving nothing to chance is part of that.

::Edit to add::
And how would leaving a cold dead body in a dump seem like a suicide or accident? Please tell, this is all too messy for a government job.
edit on 3-1-2011 by MareBellator because: (no reason given)

I have seen a few First48 episodes where they had evidence that the body was put in a dumpster/garbage truck.. They go to the landfill, look around for 5 min and give up, saying there is no way they are gona find it there. Land fills are huge. Maybe it was just blind luck that the body was found?

To me this seems like somebody else (government) got this guy and just "threw him in the trash" to send a message. Not US getting our own guy. Somebody else getting our own guy - and throwing this Harvard, Yale, AF Academy man that worked for more then one president IN THE TRASH.
Doesn't that seem sort of like a cultural statement - I dunno at all just going on the gut here.
American pig = trash. That is what I get.

If we did it - a hooker, shady second life story will arise from the investigation.

You're talking about two levels of protection when you talk about "bodyguarding": (a) protection from random nuts which is always going to take 3-5 guys, (b) protection from targeted kidnappings and assassinations in which case you're looking at 5-to-30 man protective details.

If every retired civil servant who had TS or TS/SA clearance had 5-to-30 man protective details you'd need about a million armed guards employed by the USG just to guard their retirees.

The absolutely most protection he might have received is a reimbursed home security system; a deluxe model with private patrol/armed response. And I'd be really shocked at that.

But, set that all aside for a moment. Most importantly: someone under protection doesn't take the subway!

Maybe he was going to expose something about 9/11.

I am glad somebody brought this up.
I was thinking the same way.
Mr. Wheeler was working under the
Sec. of the Air Force during the
Bush/Cheney Administration.
He may have been privy to certain
9/11 info and was gonna spill the
beans.

It seems to me, that whatever he knew ...
was what got him whacked.

My biggest question right now is,
what was Mr. Wheeler's function
to the Gov. on Sept. 11, 2001.

And then after that question would be,
what was Mr. Wheeler's connection to
the Mitre Corporation? Mitre is also involved
heavily with the UAV Spy Drones over
Afghan, Pakistan and Yemen. And from
what I heard earlier Mr. Wheeler was supposed
to have had a meeting with Mitre right before
he was last seen.

Another possibility is that Mr. Wheeler was
actually a whistle blower and maybe had
submitted docs to wikileaks or openleaks.

Interesting case! Tragic too, having read now quite a few articles on John Wheeler III, he sounds like he was an exceptionally talented, highly motivated, and patriotic man. I hope his killer or killers are brought to justice. It reminds me a little of John O'Neill.

First comment - people are getting confused about the landfill. He was not dumped in the landfill by his killer or killers, but by a garbage truck. The drivers saw the body come out, and contacted police:

His body was found three days later, on New Year's Eve, as a garbage truck emptied its contents at the Cherry Island landfill. His death has been ruled a homicide. Police have determined that all the stops made Friday by the garbage truck before it arrived at the landfill involved large commercial disposal bins in Newark, several miles from Wheeler's home.

Source - Raw Story

So he was killed somewhere then stuffed into a dumpster. We cannot rule out a simple murder mugging here. Was the wallet taken? Where was he killed - was it a high crime area? Those details aren't public, probably not known. But since this is ATS, let's look at the political angles, which any decent homicide investigator will also have to consider:

Here is a PDF of Wheeler's biography. Some phases of his career are interesting, as already mentioned on this thread, but hardly motives for murder. Working in the SEC in the 70s is irrelevant to financial crimes of today. Writing opinion pieces critical of bio-weapons or the Joint Strike Fighter is no threat to anyone either, many are critical of defense weapons. Even Robert Gates is critical of the JSF.

Several things do jump out, and credit to posters on Raw Story and Deep Politics forums for putting these ideas out there:

#1: LOOSE NUKES
Wheeler was a Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Air Force between 2005-2008, when the bizarre 2007 'Bent Spear' nuclear incident took place. That is when someone still unknown tried to move live nuclear missiles from US stockpiles to the Middle East. Basically, the theory is that Cheney wanted to put nukes over there somewhere to pretend they were Saddam Hussein's and justify the war with Iraq, or perhaps even create a false flag incident to provoke a war with Iran, and the USAF Secretary stopped it just in time and later investigated it. The whole thing was later covered up and almost never mentioned (of course) in mainstream news.

Wheeler as the USAF Secretary's assistant would have been in a position to know how this happened. And more to the point, in 2008-2009 he was 'Special Assistant' in the USAF for Installations, Logistics and Energy - which sounds like a position created to go in and clean up this alternate chain of command thing and figure out (or cover up) how nuclear weapons ("energy") could have been moved ("logistics") out of US military bases ("installations"). That is just speculation on my part.

Could Wheeler even have leaked a classified report about this incident to WikiLeaks? Could it even be the vaunted insurance file? Admittedly, this is even wilder speculation.

#2: CYBER ENEMIES
Other alternatives: He must have known all about the Air Force Cyber Command, which he helped create (Source - Cryptogon). It's well known and widely reported that various hackers routinely probe or penetrate US military commands. Wheeler's work to create defenses against this would mean he would well know who was involved in these attacks, and who the suspects were in the most spectacular and successful hacks and attacks.

Consider this:

On April 21, 2009, the Department of Defense announced the theft of 1.5 terabytes of data on the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the platform meant give the United States and her allies air superiority for the next 40 years. In a flash, all that was gone, $300 billion dollars of funding down the drain, every system, defense, offense, stealth, everything needed to build one or shoot it down, all gone. Day one, China was accused but it wasn’t China, it wasn’t Iran, it wasn’t Pakistan. The theft left a clear signature, one identical to the data Wikileaks has been receiving, sources inside the Pentagon repeating the actions of Israeli-Soviet spy, Jonathan Pollard. As vital as the F-35 is to America’s defense, Pollard’s triumph on behalf of Soviet Russia and Israel dwarfs the current espionage coup. Since the 2009 announcement, there has been nothing but silence.

F-35 Plans story, Veterans Today.

Again, Wheeler's Air Force position would put him in the thick of this buried story. Did he know too much about who stole the F-35 plans? Was he going to blow the whistle? Or was he just a loose end? We can only speculate here, but a homicide investigator looking for a motive will have to go through this recent part of his career as well, and find out what enemies he may have made.

Other Possibilities
Finally, who knows what he was doing with the MITRE Group. I have seen no clear explanation on what he was doing there, or what they even this bizarrre MITRE group does!

So at this point, all we know is John Wheeler was murdered.

1. Random killing, a mugging
2. Some personal vendetta, a romance
3. Something parapolitical, related to his work
a. Bent Spear
b. F-35 plans
c. Mitre Group
d. Unknown!

Let's hope a good homicide detective or some investigative journalists get into it and find out something, although as we all know, that's usually a bad career move on their parts.

I don't think it's to do with 9/11. If you look at his biography, he was not in government or anything remotely like it at the time, he was doing charity work with a Deafness Foundation. The incidents I mentioned in my post happened directly when he was an assistant to the USAF Secretary.

maybe the planes on 9/11 were big * off UAV's....

on another note, think about it... this would happen way way more often than you would realise. The removal of parts.... your just not privy to the knowing.

What happens when your car starts making a funny noise. You locate the defective part and you replace it. Yeah the neighbor will find it in the bin if he looks, but only if he knows to look.

Why did he know to look?

This is from his Bio link on the 1st page

Grasping the growing vulnerability of our weapon systems to Cyber intrusions, he worked tirelessly to drive the activation of Air Force Cyber Command. His visionary efforts were instrumental in the creation of the Cyber Research Center at the Air Force Institute of Technology; the first two graduates of the United States Air Force Academy to enter the Air Force Institute of Technology Cyber Master's Program; the stand-up of the Air Force Cyber School; and an increased emphasis on Air Force recruitment efforts for officers and enlisted for Cyber careers.

That is correct and sadly people assume that due to ones former position and that after the term is over they simply go about their daily lives mowing the lawn and having bacon n' eggs in the morning. At times, i simply avoid replying to certain posts as its way to consuming and sadly people would rather be spoon fed than actually putting pen to paper. The moment you mention cyber command then you immediately know who is involved, therefore, him being monitored is standard protocol especially after the recent fiasco with WL and the army's Swiss cheese in security procedures. I also assume that transcripts of individual or high ranking officials continues way beyond their time with associated governments. It is rumored they are monitored until the natural life cycle.

For what it's worth, the Sorcha Faal (I know!) website has an article saying it was linked to 'accidental' chemical leaks of a very poisonous gas in Arkansas, which caused the deaths of the birds and polluted the river. Apparently, Wheeler was furious and went to DC and threatened to expose them. Of course, I know that Sorcha Faal is not a reliable source, but the article does make some points which could perhaps be verified regarding the existence of the gas in the river and the tissue of the dead birds. So, notwithstanding the questionable trustworthiness of the source, I thought I'd post it on this thread for consideration.

I haven't mentioned the number that was assigned, but was he tagged, 99.9% yes, he was. As for the subway, you would honestly be surprised at how many people do take the subway who you probably think that its impossible for them to ride a train for security reasons. Keep in mind, its far easier to conceal in plain view what you don't want to be viewed.

As for the dispute regarding a house and a blocked view, well lets say it was placed out there to sell more news and increase revenue and lets not forget, that just about now, his sexual preferences will come into light, similar to the Gareth Williams incident whose link to the nsa has been confirmed and was well known back in 04.

James Forrestal had a distinguished career
Majority Leader Thomas Hale Boggs had a distinguished career
United States Representative Nicholas J. Begich had a distinguished career
Maj. General William Robertson, Deputy Commanding General, V Corps, Europe, former bodyguard to Clinton had a distinguished career as did Colonel William Densberger and Colonel Robert Kelly.

I could go on for another 3 hours but hey....its all coincidence and happenstance and people like us simply read into things that arent really there. After all..people die everyday. Right?

What does "tagged" mean? Does that mean "monitored"? I'm only addressing the question that he was getting 24/7 protection.

To that point, it is absolutely not true that people under 24/7 protection commute on the subway with their protective escort for reasons far too numerous to itemize here. This isn't some episode of Scarecrow & Mrs. King where the column of armored cars is a decoy but they're really moving the nuke in the back of a postal truck. You'd have to have the most bumbling team of idiot buffoon CPO's imaginable if they moved you by subway or commuter train. Like, literally.

He did not have "protection."
