Get out your lawn chair and popcorn because tomorrow morning my European, African and Asian brothers will be treated to the first partial solar eclipse of this year.

Although 3 others are scheduled for this coming year, I believe this will be the only one visible from my corner of the world this year.

January 4, 2011 – Partial Solar Eclipse Reminder

This year we’re in for a real treat! The citizens of planet Earth will be treated to not one – but four – partial solar eclipses.

The first partial solar eclipse 2011 is scheduled for January 4th, 2011, and will be seen in Europe, Africa and Central Asia. This eclipse will begin at 06:40:11 UT (Universal Time)) and culminates at 11:00:54 UT. The greatest eclipse – the point of time when the distance between the Moon’s shadow axis and Earth’s center is the minimum – will happen at 08:50:35 UT over northern Sweden. If you live in northern Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia, you will be able to witness this eclipse.

And for those who want to get an early start, get that lawn chair out a little bit earlier and you will be treated to our annual quadrantids meteor shower...

Quadrantids Meteor Shower - January 3-4, 2011

All-in-all a pretty interesting night/day for those interested in looking up, have fun (I know I will...
)

Peace

Spectacular photography work Yzzy!!!

It was cloudy here in all morning but thanks to a narrow band of clear sky I was able to see it as well....

Was not able to take any pictures without ruining my camera so here one from our local newspaper...

I am sooo jealous! I would love to see the Eclipse. i live in the USA and well we cant see it here. I did get to see the Lunar Eclipse we had back in December. I stayed out till 5am in the freezing cold watching it from beggining to end. it was awesome! It was also really cool to see how all the stars appeared once it went dark..Eclipses are awesome!!
